When I let myself think about it, I still can't believe he's gone. When a Soundgarden song randomly comes on my first thought is "al-right!" :bammer: then I remember... :(

I was driving home last night, and was listening to a playlist that I had made a year ago today. I was of the camp that took a deep dive into Cornell/Soundgarden/Audioslave when I heard the news... Anyway, "Preaching the End of the World" came on and I really started picking up on some similarities between that song and "Blow Up the Outside World", almost as if "Preaching" is an unofficial continuation, or contrast to the song? I just listened to them back to back, and oddly they really seem to flow well into each other....

any thoughts?

i walked past a wall of posters for this this week. they had been pasted over after one day.

it's all well and good but these things are all so outrageously expensive it's like wtf

cornell spoke ill of all the reissues before he past away

matt reeder's compilations way more special

I actually thought about making an Audioslave thread because of fucking vicky
That first album is brilliant. I don't know why people were/are sniffy about it. Maybe it's a bit too long, and it's more straightforward/simpler than Soundgarden, but it's still a banger. Also the last record that has those classic Cornell vocals IMO.

Out of Exile and Revelations are pretty decent but they never had the darkness or vibe of that first album. Plus Cornell's vocals took a dive.
yeah, i also consider their first album to be brilliant. They mixed Chris´s sound with RATM so well. Revelations is also a masterpiece, but it took me a long time to see it....they changed their sound to a more R&B approach and its very cool....i would say Out Of Exile is the one i care the least and it still has some very good moments.
Pretty sure we can leave the juvenile ongoings with Vicky et all in the other Cornell thread.

I recall an interview circa '06/'07 when Cornell was pretty open about how difficult the original Audioslave sessions could get, mostly because he was finishing off a six-pack before getting started and had some shit hitting various fans. Listening to the Civilian demo, which tends to have the (single tracked) vox up-front and essentially no overdubbing, you'd have no idea; he sounds absolutely phenomenal.

yeah, he was fucked up during the first album i think. He went to rehab when they recorded the second one. I remember the split being kinda weird too with Cornell not trashing the band but saying stuff like ..." we needed a change of direction and im not sure they were up to"

It was a weird split.

I went crazy for the Civilian demos when they leaked. I listened to them so much I was disappointed when the actual album dropped cause it sounded so slick in comparison.

Audioslave’s commercial success never really erased the fault line between Cornell and the rest of the band, and few were surprised when, amid disputes over royalties and creative decisions — Cornell has said mixers and session musicians were brought in to work on their recordings without his knowledge — he walked away in 2007 to begin another solo album.

Probably a lot more drama about the Audioslave breakup that we'll never know, especially the above tidbit about session musicians. I recall Cornell admitting to Howard Stern that $$$ played a big part in the breakup. Looks like they patched it up though.

I dunno WTF they were thinking getting rid of that original Shadow On The Sun guitar solo

The way the guitars descend into that last chorus on Pillow of Your Bones is pure madness.
