If I were Mecca, I woulda been 3/4 of the way there, but not all the way.

It felt VERY fast. I do like the direction of the mythology (the conspiracy aspect of the mythology was always scarier than the alien aspect, to me), but it felt hastily written. It seemed to gain a lot of steam as it went along, and it wasn't the disaster I worried about having read some of the early reviews.

Watched the 3 episodes before the series finale last night. Two of them were actually good! I was surprised. Doggett actually became a pretty likable and compelling character in the episode about the death of his son. Really clarifies how important Mulder's personal investment and need to know were to making the best X-Files seasons work.

On the other hand, Reyes is the worst character ever, and I'm glad I didn't sit through a bunch of episodes of Scully being a mom. Ugh.

Dogget was cool. I loved Robert Patrick.

I really dug "Sunshine Days". Reminded me of the good ol' days of X-Files.

I liked the new episode. Didn't love it. The pacing was terrible. It was way too rushed. Gillian is acting her ass off but the pacing and editing don't give enough of her moments a proper landing. Chris Carter is smarter than he is a good writer. His concepts and ideas are outstanding and once again, this new twist on the mythology and conspiracy is so intelligent and fresh. I love the concepts. But the actual writing was clunky and forced. And the direction was worse.

Chris needs to come up with the ideas and let better people write and direct. Still, I'm glad it's back! It feels so good to have "the band back together." And I love that the intro is the same. That got me pumped. :heartbeat:

Previews showed a really promising episode tonight. I'm hoping now that the exposition is out of the way, we can actually get into this thing, slow down and have some real fun.

I have to say the finale is overall a letdown. But the episodes leading up to it are great. I'm glad you're enjoying them. Hopefully, you'll like the finale a bit more than others since you skipped a lot of the wheel spinning of 8 & 9.

And I just want to reiterate how much I agree with you about Doggett and Reyes.

First ep was OK. It did the set up job. The alien/human twist was fine I still can't help but wonder why the conspirators would find destroying the planet to be an acceptable end game but whatever. Monster of the week coming!

Spoiler-ed only because I know not everybody watches the "Next time on The X-Files" clips...
Spoiler: show
Are we sure the next episode is a MOTW? From the previews, it seemed like it might have to do with the human/alien hybrid thing. We'll see in a few hours!

"I didn't set out to do something faster paced than we typically would, but when you tell these mythology episodes, I think that you need to be mindful of the thriller and the dictates of the thriller approach, he says. "So I think that's what you got [in the first episode]. I can tell you that in the next episode, which is not a mythology episode, which is a stand-alone episode, you're going to get the [slower] moments you're referring to."

Yeah, it was rushed.

I didnt quite liked it, i mean the conspiracy is ok, although i have lost track of the whole alien, humans, thing. But it felt good to have them back.

Watching the series finale, which is recapping a lot of what I missed. Man, this show REALLY went off the deep end.
