have you enjoyed the recommendations in this thread thus far?verb_to_trust wrote:I would encourage it, if only because I generally dislike most things stip likes and was hoping for some good recs....

this was probably the best manic street preachers song you've posted thus far.Lament wrote:I'm gonna post this cause it's far and away my favorite track to appear anywhere this year. This album (and this song in particular) shattered my perceptions of what you could expect from a traditional rock band two decades into their career. It is simultaneously true to who they are while also sounding like absolutely nothing else they've ever done before. And even if you have no knowledge of them, it's just a killer fucking song. Intelligent, insightful, angry, dramatic, daring. Great music, great lyrics, great production, great performance. I ended up (unfairly, but for good reason) making a lot of comparisons between this album and Lightning Bolt (my two favorite bands, both releasing their first album of their third decade together merely weeks apart; It was inevitbale), and it probably caused me to be harsher on LB than I should have been. I can't help it though.
And yes, stip, I know you won't like it because of the vocals.
If you want to know what it's like to talk music with you, just imagine how you feel when you talk politics with IlluminEddie (or any libertarian)stip wrote:this was probably the best manic street preachers song you've posted thus far.Lament wrote:I'm gonna post this cause it's far and away my favorite track to appear anywhere this year. also, you're way too hard on lightning bolt, which, based on this thread, I am almost ready to call the album of the year
(yeah but sometimes there's such a fundamental difference in how you see things that you know you'll never agree)stip wrote:(in his case it is entirely craziness. it's not hard to talk to people with different ideologies)
don't you have more songs to link for me not to like, or were you only into one thing this entire year? I've got an entire year of not listening to new music to make up for in this thread
objectively?Heathen wrote:Are you gonna rank all the songs of this thread, stip?

It'll get another full listen (maybe even two) during my twenty hours of driving tomorrow and Friday, so I suppose if there ever a time for my opinion to change a bit, this could be it.stip wrote:also, you're way too hard on lightning bolt, which, based on this thread, I am almost ready to call the album of the year
I wanted to like that album, and some of it is ok, but without Homme, they are missing a lot.LetMeSleep wrote:Heathen wrote:I might not have picked that one, but great album either wayLetMeSleep wrote:Adara - Vista Chino
and seeing them next year. Happy times.
I find it fairly impossible to talk to Tories.stip wrote:(in his case it is entirely craziness. it's not hard to talk to people with different ideologies)

That being said, I don't see how it could ever enter the same stratosphere are the Manics, CHVRCHES, or Janelle Monae albums for me. All three of those were more or less instant classics in my world.
Yeah. It doesn't need to be as good as those.stip wrote:Lament wrote:It'll get another full listen (maybe even two) during my twenty hours of driving tomorrow and Friday, so I suppose if there ever a time for my opinion to change a bit, this could be it.stip wrote:also, you're way too hard on lightning bolt, which, based on this thread, I am almost ready to call the album of the year

It'll definitely scratch a different itch than Chvrches or Janelle Monae.
