I'm always surprised that people are surprised ed can be an asshole. Ed's always been a dick. I realized that when i was 13 years old. But that passion/anger/rage/ridiculousness/self righteousness is part of the passion that made the music so great and that drew me to the band. Its part of who he is and what makes/made him great. Most of us understood that and thus are not surprised at his antics. But that makes us apologists!

Being a dick isn't the issue so much as being a dick and a preachy hypocrite. Obviously people's world views change, and it would be dumb to assume 2013 Ed would stick with 1991 Ed's positions on things, but how you treat people with less power than you or that you have power over is an excellent way to judge character, and the older wiser Ed should be aware of that.

I think the title of this thread is useful. There is still a difference between times you are a dick, and being a dick all the time. For the most part Ed's dickishness seems to be an exception, worthy of comment because it seems out of character.

It's worthy of comment because he's a rich celebrity whose actions and positions are in the public eye, and because he preaches a different way.

Also, as WcT said, Ed was still being a dick. He was providing context for where that dickishness came from. I think you're missing my point in your quickness to apologise for Pearl Jam, stip. My point is this and only this: flashing one's body part and saying 'Sign this!' is a pretty well-known fan sentiment in rock music. Countless comedies have parodied it. This was all the woman was doing, flashing her tits. I was not saying anything was *wrong* with the other fan actions that I listed, only that they are the actions of devoted fans. They are fine actions, but equally pointless actions. BEING A FAN IS NEEDLESS ENTERTAINMENT. So is flashing one's tits, sometimes. Honestly i think that the bottle is broken or someshit, at the end he pours the water out of his mug and pours the wine in (the video cuts but i think you can see it in others). Unless of course he just didnt want the gross wine sullying his good bottle or something.
