"Aye Davanita" isn't really an instrumental, is it?
Nope, it isn't.theplatypus wrote:"Aye Davanita" isn't really an instrumental, is it?

Oh geez, there's tons. Smashing Pumpkins are a band I don't particularly care for, but Billy's guitar tones on Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie... are out of this world. Blur. Sonic Youth. Dinosaur Jr. Swervedriver. Slowdive. There's more great sounds on Soundgarden, Nirvana and TAD albums than anything by Pearl Jam. Tony Iommi on the first few Sabbath albums. Robert Fripp, both with Eno and King Crimson.dkfan9 wrote:name me five better, sans neil young.Birds in Hell wrote:Nah.dkfan9 wrote:yes!Gods' Die wrote:Vitalogy probably has the best guitar tones of any record ever.

That may be, but Vitalogy still has awesome guitar tones--this perfect combination of a sneering, dismissive apathy, anger, and a dirty kind of hope.Birds in Hell wrote:Oh geez, there's tons. These guys have (for the most part) been pretty vanilla and conservative in regards to guitar tone. I think Yield is probably the only album where I feel as though they'd given the guitar tones on each song some serious thought.
Coming soon from Electro-Harmonix, the Dismissive Apathy fuzz and Dirty Kind of Hope overdrive.stip wrote:That may be, but Vitalogy still has awesome guitar tones--this perfect combination of a sneering, dismissive apathy, anger, and a dirty kind of hope.Birds in Hell wrote:Oh geez, there's tons. I still love how the guitars sound on Vitalogy...it sucks that I'm wrong.Birds in Hell wrote:Coming soon from Electro-Harmonix, the Dismissive Apathy fuzz and Dirty Kind of Hope overdrive.stip wrote:That may be, but Vitalogy still has awesome guitar tones--this perfect combination of a sneering, dismissive apathy, anger, and a dirty kind of hope.Birds in Hell wrote:Oh geez, there's tons. That's clearly some sort of oversight. And reading through this thread (or maybe another one) has really, really made me miss Riot Act. I've been sorely underrating it based on reading about and actually thinking about the songs and the wonderful sound of that record.joostone wrote:I've been checking http://www.besteveralbums.com lately...that's website has a database of all 'best records list' and combines all those to one master list...
interesting fact....

Nirvana's guitar tones? meh. The guitar tones on those two SP albums are good, but the melodies are what make them special, not the tones themselves.Birds in Hell wrote:Oh geez, there's tons.
