55K is a nice distance. It'll be a challenge, but I certainly won't blow out my legs for the rest of the vacation.
Registered! And the wife is thinking about making it her first ultra.
What is the distance of a normal marathon? In kms, please.

I was just about to post "so the ultra marathon is not much longer, then?", before I realised what the hell I was talking about. I could probably not even WALK those 13 km. Well I could, of course, but you know what I mean.

nothing screams insecurity louder than posting one's workout related statistics on a message board full of strangers, serial treadmiller.

15 miles with 4,800 feet in elevation change in 2:21
Double loop at my favorite trail. First loop in 68. Second in 73. Trail was packed and it was a bit hotter than I would have liked, but I felt pretty solid until the last couple of miles when I started to fade. Bunch of runners on the trail, which was awesome to see.

I'm not a huge fan of 50Ks, but they are kinda the gateway race into the world of ultras. 50Ks are about speed and I've never really been fast, so I generally avoid them. But this one seems like a cool way to enjoy the new scenery.
Longer distances are more my thing because I enjoy the physical pain and mental anguish that comes at mile 83 of a 100-mile race.

13.1 miles in 96 minutes
Legs felt decent after yesterday's fairly nasty run. Hit the canal with the baby in our old (and crappy) running stroller. Even split. Time wasn't great, but pretty decent considering yesterday's run and the resistance from the shitty stroller.
