You got "Mayonaise", "Siva", "Drown" and "Starla" in 1996 - that's pretty amazing, and one of only two performances of "Starla" during the MCIS tour.
Actually, the Pumpkins' new album is pretty good. But they'll never have the cultural cachet they had in 1996, and I think Billy is finally starting to accept that fact.

Soundgarden just announced:
Sept 4 - Helsinki, Finland @ Hartwall Arena
Sept 6 - Stockholm, Sweden @ Hovet
Sept 7 - Oslo, Norway @ Spektrum
Sept 9 - Copenhagen, Denmark @ Forum
So 15.Sept in Pittsburgh is looking pretty spotty.

I am hoping the September 15th date is still a go and this means they are letting Matt return to Soundgarden full-time while bringing back Dave Abbs!

Matt is crazy enough to still make this happen. That guy loves to work.
I'm just hoping for 2 legs and a couple of smaller venues here and there.

I think Matt knows he isn't getting younger, he probably isn't going to be able to withstand two-hour plus shows on drums in ten or fifteen years (at least not with the kind of power he still has now.)
I'm sure the whole band knows that the earning potential they currently have isn't going to last forever, I presume that's one of the reasons why we've seen less records over the last few years and a lot more festival shows (which pay very well, as far as I know.)

This actually makes a lot of sense in terms of how they've gone about business (shows, festivals, Backspacer) the past few years. The turning point comes when/if they realize they've passed that earning potential, and how they respond....

hasnt eddie vedder acknowledged the band doesnt wanna play super long tours again? i thought i remember an interview where he talked about not doing long tours b/c of families, age, etc. it makes perfect sense they'd play more festivals to make up the $. it kinda sucks, but its reality.

so what's the consensus here on casino tours? I mean, smaller shows, right? Isn't that what we all want?

Has PJ ever done an album gig where they play the whole album in order? Also how would you feel about this? I'm guessing that no-one here would mind a Yield show but realistically they would only do the first 5 albums (can't see a BS show selling out or being massively popular).

They did that for Avocado, I think. One of the Italian shows.

so they did. Torino Sept 19. Was it well received by the crowd or well regarded amongst the 0.5% here?

On 3-13-92 they played Ten in order as well.
I personally think album shows are almost always a terrible idea (unless you're talking about something like Quadrophenia that has a legitimate narrative).

True. Each medium is different and the flow doesn't necessarily work live. However seeing The Pixies do Doolittle was awesome. A mate who is a massive Cure fan loved the Opera House album shows a few years back too. And Springsteen does it sometimes with his early albums.
I guess I'm asking would anyone be keen for a VS Ten or Yield show. Now if they did all the extra tracks for a Vitalogy show, that would be immense and I would have to see that.

I've always liked how the Cure very often do encores themed around one of their records, it'd really cool to see an encore of only No Code or only Binaural material.

I couldn't agree more. I'd love to see a fourteen-fifteen song main set followed by two different four song encores each comprised of cuts from one album, and then their standard final encore. I'd prefer that to just playing the album in sequential order.

It's been my experience that sometimes in for they'll have like a Binaural heavy night, or a No Code heavy night. And omit some other albums entirely. Vitalogy and Vs and Ten are featured heavily every night anyways so they could develop this idea and make it encore feature. Thatd be really cool.
