the Vs. production no doubt helps it a lot, but Dave is the MVP; I don't even think Watt could ruin his playing (although there'd probably be some fist fights)

Rats remains as one of those weird funky songs they did back then...way more fleshed out that Dirty Frank lets say, but again they seemed to completely drop that sort of groove oriented writing with Vitalogy and No Code...which was weird because you got Jackie I on drums there! a Chili Pepper himself.

I love the bridge and the outro of this one. And of course Jeff Ament :bammer: :bammer:

Ok, now that we are discussing these trend of poppy acoustic eddie songs...Small Town is how they could be recorded and produced...everything is gorgeous, lush and warm and sound amazing, spacey...all those little country things Mike ( i guess its mike) is doing, the beautiful quiet strumming of Stone and Ed' heartfelt performance makes this one a true classic.

While i like Indifference enough, its not one of those i need to hear it...i love Jeff of course and those little touches Mike and Stone do...who is on keys? Brendan? its pretty cool.

Very moody, i wish they recorded this one during No Code or Binaural maybe.

one of their most weirdly taken for granted songs

I think its because its been played to death...even their live renditions seems sometimes very sloppy, if you are there watching the show, its impossible not to get lost and sing it like there is no tomorrow though.

But this is just a five star song really.

Listened to this the other day. The “Ben” outtro in Rats kind of reminds me of what would eventually come in No Code. Love that garagey guitar tone and Eddies vocals. Such a unique way to end the song compared to how it begins.
