I love about half of it and really like the other half. About a Girl was always my favorite track (and remains in my top 5 Nirvana songs). It doesn't really sound like anything else on Bleach or Nevermind to my ears. How about you?

Yeah, that was my next one. This 80s one is harder because my list is alot shorter.

I love About a Girl and I think a few other songs are good. Bleach is a fun little record, but it feels somewhat disposable and I made the argument (that did not go over well) that it is substantially below the other two Nirvana records in terms of quality, and that is remembered the way it is more for the fact that the band that wrote bleach would go on to write Nevermind and In Utero rather than for the strengths of the record itself.

I wouldn't argue with that, although today I'd prefer Bleach over Nevermind. Nevermind is a great album but some of those songs were played to death. I'm also not crazy about the glossy production on Nevermind (e.g., Come as You Are), although much of it sounds great. About a Girl is on par with (or perhaps above) anything the band ever did. It definitely foreshadowed the band's greatness.

Ah bummer. I wasn't sure it would make it this far. I've already crossed a bunch of tunes off my shortlist thanks to you people stealing all the good songs!

Actually there's 2 or 3 songs like this..

I had 5 songs I wanted to take for my first pick and all are gone by the end of the second round. So unlike the 60s and 70s

This tourney is shit!
So far I've had to cross the following off my list:
Nirvana - About a Girl
Pixies - Where is my mind
Prince - When Doves Cry
Talking Heads - Once In A Lifetime
Pretty much - next up I'm just drafting The Wedding Singer soundtrack

There must have been way less songs made in the 80s.
This is a great pick... and here's an article about the recording process. Also, you can listen to the isolated vocal parts (without that bastardized bass line)... gives me chills every time I hear it!
