I cannot fathom how Force of Nature gets the love it does. Its 100% pure 80s movie training montage music. Back before they hired real musicians to make most of the soundtracks and instead hired some guy with a keyboard who was never heard from again. If it were presented as a parody, I might be able to get some enjoyment out of it, but its so serious. Its all the more shameful that it has the best lyrics on the album (for what lyrics are worth). Listening to it today, I could not believe the five guys who made Vitalogy actually sat in a room together, hammered this thing out, and then, unanimously, agreed it was worthy of an album spot (albeit barely, and was probably the last to make the cut I'm guessing).
And what... what is that instrument playing? is it a guitar? is it a keyboard synthesizing a guitar? Whatever it is, Its the most limp dick tone imaginable. It literally sounds like a sweaty wet fart on a 110 degree day. with humidity.

I like the studio production on FoN. To me it's a homage to late 70's AM rock with a nod to Zep's Trampled Underfoot. This one benefits greatly from headphones, the layering of the overdubs is gorgeous.

For some reason I picture ed wearing a sweatband over heavily feathered hair during Force of Nature. perhaps wearing a pastel suit.

Burt, how do you find the live versions? They have more punch and less layers.
btw, you do have to embrace the cheese. I was put off at first but it has its merits.

The whole album Brendan O'Brien is about embracing cheese.

don't know if I've ever heard a live version. it's a rarity it seems.

It's the same song and is still the jovi-montage cheese fest just with a bit more punch. It won't sway you at all but it may be less annoying.

As middling as GSMF is one of my favorite moments on the album is Eds voice when he sings "never to wash away..." And holds the note and seemlessly blends it into the final verse. It's badass. It's a gift to still be able to scream like that at his age.

It's sounds like a Bon Jovi song covered by Garth Brooks. Except without a fiddle.

You, sir, are my favorite RM contributor. Keep up the good work.

Because he doesn't know how to play fiddle, only keys.
