Actually, it was 7-3...Mecca wrote:it was 5 vs. 3 and everyone but him and Howland Reed died.Kaius wrote:Granted, we don't know how it went down, but if Ned truly defeated Arthur "Sword of the Morning" Dayne in combat? That's big time.
Sandor is obviously the more dangerous fighter. But for jollies, I've been trying to find a scenario that gives Ned the win. It's Ice. A Valyrian greatsword that could slice through a castle-forged sword, shield, or even the Hound's armor.

Ice was impractical in battle and I'm pretty sure was mostly ceremonial. Correct me if I'm wrong but Ned battled with a longswordKaius wrote:Actually, it was 7-3...Mecca wrote:it was 5 vs. 3 and everyone but him and Howland Reed died.Kaius wrote:Granted, we don't know how it went down, but if Ned truly defeated Arthur "Sword of the Morning" Dayne in combat? I haven't found evidence to the contrary, and you might be right about it's practicality in battle. I was (maybe mistakenly) imagining it being similar to Longclaw or Oathkeeper in battle, but it appears to be a much larger sword.Mecca wrote:Ice was impractical in battle and I'm pretty sure was mostly ceremonial. some light research says he used it during the greyjoy rebellion. Even with that edge, Sandor still gets my voteKaius wrote:I haven't found evidence to the contrary, and you might be right about it's practicality in battle. Also, Oathkeeper was 1 of 2 swords forged from melted down Ice, so you're dumb

Sandor wins, but not easily. He promises to protect the Stark girls before Ned takes his last breath.

I still had that thought after reading about Valyrian swords for 20 minutes.

Ok. So, it is usable in battle and can cleave armor without a problem. I still think the Hound probably just bum rushes Ned, maybe sacrificing his shield, and overpowers him inside the reach of that extra long sword.Mecca wrote:some light research says he used it during the greyjoy rebellion.
