Re: Pearl Jam 2016 North American tour
I live in Boston, but haven't been to any Fenway concerts. I will probably go to one of the PJ ones just to try it out. I don't think the sound will be good, but I don't think the sound at the TD Garden is good either. And for me, it will be easier getting to and from Fenway than it would be for Great Woods (Mansfield).
There will be demand for the tickets, but I think 2 shows instead of one will alleviate that factor big time. If someone knows what they are doing even a little bit, and is willing to be patient and put in a tiny amount of effort, they should not have a problem getting tickets at face or less.

Re: Pearl Jam 2016 North American tour
the garden (and similar sports venues) are clearly not ideal for concerts in terms of sound, but they're much better than the acoustic abominations that are baseball parks
ideally bands should play real music venues, but you're not going to have the capacity you're looking for there
maybe pearl jam could play the house of blues and do a 5 night run to make up for it?

I think they played that space (then known as "Avalon") a looong time ago.cutuphalfdead wrote: maybe pearl jam could play the house of blues and do a 5 night run to make up for it?
The 5,000-capacity Something Bank Pavilion on the water would be a good place for a multi-night run, and is one of the few venues of notable size in Eastern Massachusetts that they haven't played.

I very rarely have a point Bryan. You must be confusing me for someone else.@SkitchP wrote:While I agree there is some truth to the gimmick element of historic baseball stadiums, I can't rail against it too hard. If you're at a suburban ampitheatre, there usually arent dozens of walkable bars, hotels, etc. Which makes Chris's Sunday point all the more baffling.

Define nearby. We'd have to hit Guacamaya instead.

playing at a baseball field is such an annoying schtick. it's a way to create demand and a huge buzz (look at PJ fans right now). there's really no benefit or plus side to the whole thing other than "omg they are playing Wrigley Field"

Got Greenville tickets - reserved. Last time I saw PJ was in 2008 at Bonnaroo. I'll be driving in from Nashville and couldn't be more excited. Was on this board years ago under a different name - kak23, then it was changed again when the board changed but I can't remember that username, so I changed it.
Really looking forward to this show - Bummed that they are skipping Nashville. I'd go to Bonnaroo but my wife is pregnant with our first child and it's due around Bonnaroo weekend. I'll be the guy at Greenville in reserved seating with my pregnant wife.

Not to mention that, at least with Fenway, these concerts wreak havoc on the outfield grass.

I pretty much agree. But one benefit, at least for Boston, is the ability to play outside at a place actually in the city as opposed to a distant suburb.bodysnatcher wrote:playing at a baseball field is such an annoying schtick. it's a way to create demand and a huge buzz (look at PJ fans right now). there's really no benefit or plus side to the whole thing other than "omg they are playing Wrigley Field"
And from some people's point of view, the ballparks' higher capacity is a benefit. They hold more people than "sheds" or arenas.
