Is your issue with Republicans or the form of government and checks and balances in that government?
I’m talking about the real world impact of this situation, wherein the organization of our republic and its demographic disbursement have created conditions in which a minority party can effectively hold the Senate while openly using its power to circumvent any.....any......checks on the president. Specifically, on his ability to weaponize the government against his domestic enemies. Where a minority of citizens inundated with propaganda can effectively empower a party which chooses not to adhere to those constructs of the republic that become inconvenient for it.
And I’m not talking about it to argue an issue or register a complaint. I’m summarizing the situation that we find ourselves in, and I’m wondering what happens next.
“The question then is not whether the president did it, but whether the United States Senate or the American people should decide what to do about what he did.” - Lamar, saying it out loud in his explanation for voting “no witnesses.”

His book is coming out in a matter of weeks, which just makes this all the more idiotic.

Yep. Put it on the American people in November, there isn't an established pattern of fucking with elections going on in our country or anything. Not to mention the message this is all sending God King is to go ahead and really unshackle himself, go full dictator.

7th generation Tennessean born and raised in Maryville
Uh...anyone want to tell him he's a Maryvillian? because he sure as fuck can't claim Tennessee with that lineage.
edit: do you know it took me about half an hour to realize that Maryville isn't Maryland? Fuck it's been a long-ass day. I'm going to bed.

Republicans are poised to declare complete inconsequence for their own authoritarian extreme. How does that hurt Democrats?

I hope Roberts grows a spine and actually manages this thing instead of just following a predetermined path.
is Cowardly Lion Lamar retiring or something?

Then why - to borrow a right wing talking point regarding people in the Senate shouldn't be able to vote against Trump since they are running against him - is he allowed to vote?

Because he's still a senator. He's just not going to seek reelection.
