Re: The Official GIGATON Thread
I find it really hard to rank the songs on Gigaton cuz there's a group of about 7 that are basically interchangeable. But my top 3 is definitely...
Dance of the Clairvoyants
Seven O' Clock
Comes Then Goes

Nothing to do, well, except watch the visualizers again.
What...a...terrific...album.
Christ, I think ND and Retrograde are even starting to click for me.

i certainly hope you are acting out all the bandmember parts using kitchen utensilsPHATJ wrote:I’ve listened from cover to cover at least 25 times, plus another few dozen times in random order. I sometimes have five day stretches when I’m home alone during the quarantine, and with no live sports to be consumed, it’s been a lot of Gigaton for me. Some days I’ve had the album on for 12 straight hours. That said, I’ve also had days (like yesterday) where I haven’t listened to a single song for the album, so I haven’t at all burned myself out on it. The last Pearl Jam album I could’ve or would’ve done this kind of intense listening without burning myself out would probably have been Yield (maybe Vitalogy). I was a young teen for those releases, now I’ll be 40 in three months. It’s amazing any band could affect me in such a powerful way two and a half decades later. Remarkable.

Re: The Official GIGATON Thread
I haven't been listening to this album non-stop, but I have been listening to it quite a bit. Just here at work and thinking about how much I really do like this album. I haven't played one of their new albums this much upon release since Avocado. I think I'm finally starting to come around to Take the Long Way as well. While it's still not one of my favorites on the album, I'm not so inclined to skip it anymore. I liken this album to Yield for me. When Yield came out - just musically and lyrically, that album came out at the perfect time for what was going on in my life back then. And because of that, Yield will always be my favorite. However, I feel Gigaton is the same way. With all the forced isolation and uncertainty going on in the world, and now having a wife and kids, a lot of these songs just really hit home for me. It's not my #1 PJ album by any means, but it's definitely moved it's way to the top 5 for me.

Re: The Official GIGATON Thread
I've slowed to a listen-once-every-two-days pace for the past week or so. Didn't listen Sunday, and last night just before bed figured I'd start it but only play the first couple or few songs. But everything's good and moves me so easily from one to the next that, sure enough, I ended up sitting here with headphones on listening to the entire thing.

I can listen to tracks 1 - 7 before skipping TTLW.
That's a pretty good run.

I had an interaction on Facebook with someone I know IRL who is a huge Pearl Jam fan, and I asked him what he thought of Gigaton
I hate this kind of attitudeNot great. 2 songs that I like. Rest is not growing on me at all. Too much of a departure for me.
I don't think they have had a good studio album in a long time. Not sure I care. Follow the Rolling Stones model: Release an album if you like. But play your hits and bring the A game when you tour!

You should immediately cease all future interactions with this person.theplatypus wrote:I had an interaction on Facebook with someone I know IRL who is a huge Pearl Jam fan, and I asked him what he thought of Gigaton
