I had this same thought the other day. Each side is a like a wonderfully curated EP.

Getting the vinyl this time out has been an eye opener. Now I want all of the records in that format. Song sequence really makes more sense this way. Listening on the phone as a straight 1-12 is different than vinyl because of this. I now understand it. I wonder if some of the other albums will make more sense this way. I always had trouble with Lightning Bolt's bottom half, or No Code for that matter. But this might help me.

they've always tracked with an eye toward the vinyl and this is no exception. when you look at the grouping of songs that way it makes perfect sense.

i'd probably go with side A as my favorite but just barely.

my dad and I both closely followed PJ when I was growing up, but he dropped of at Yield really; he also enjoyed bits of Soundgarden and loves Neil Young, The Who, other classic rock, New Wave like Blondie

on paper he's right in PJ's wheelhouse, he just hasn't been wowed by them for a long time

I kinda think Pearl Jam as classic rock is a bit overstated.

It isn’t just that Ed is suddenly killing it, but that he’s killing it while (or sometimes by) doing all the things I just absolutely knew he needed to give up on. Solo acoustic tracks. Rushed, playful rockers. Political messaging. Vocalizing over everything. Trying to play to old strengths.

Agreed. He didn’t stop doing all the things we made fun of on LB or Backspacer, he’s just found a way to make it all work. He sounds like a layer in the song rather than the lead guy standing out in front of the song.

It reminds of Riot Act in that manner.

yeah agreed. He is showing some restraint without losing any passion and i love that. Reminds me a little of Yield.

I’m really starting to feel the Yield comparisons more and more. This album is such a great one to spend meditative time with.

And the "Ed mannerisms" you all are talking about remind me of a song like Cold Confession, where things people complain about are there, but they work in the context of the song.

I wish I could find something about it to meditate on. Lyrics aren't enough, in the end theyre just someone's words and opinions. Lyrics that arent quality can ruin an album though. To me, Gigaton has become like a very good nursery rhyme leather-bound hardback with fantastic cover art . It's very catchy from cover to cover but after a week you already know what's in it . it doesn't matter if Ed takes an unexpected vocal detour on a bridge or verse occasionally, the instrumentation is nearly absent. They left the guitars at home.
