Yeah, you're correct here. That is and always will be true with jury trials. Biden complied with the law as it is written and pardon power remains a political lever the President holds. Every President including Trump has sometimes exercised pardons in very morally questionable ways. I do think it's fair for the red team to stomp their feet a bit as America has been sitting through this from the chattering class for a while now:

I don't know why the White House feels the need to defend this. Trump's been packing his cabinet with every asshole who ever said they want to arrest every Democrat whoever stood against them, and Republicans have been absolutely obsessed with Hunter for 5 years. Every indication is that when Trump gets in there, they were going to stomp the shit out of him for no reason other than to hurt Joe.

It's gonna do no political damage against the Democrats, and what are they going to do about Biden?

If I were president I would pardon my son for basically anything. I think most parents would. Who cares?

I have no problem defending this one "broken promise" pardon against everyone Trump ever pardoned. Alice Johnson was the only person he pardoned that wasn't a complete and total piece of shit deserving of all they got.

Not worth the effort. These partisan hacks have the memory of goldfish.

I doubt this will be the only pardon anyway. Doesn't every president pardon a bunch of allies when they leave office?

Obama was a prolific pardoner. I'm not sure what that was about.

Ha ha ha! Republicans are mad.
It's a lot.

Politico: We haven’t seen a pardon as sweeping as Hunter Biden’s in generations
So rather than merely pardoning his son for the gun crimes for which he was convicted and the tax crimes for which he pleaded guilty, the president’s pardon covers all “offenses against the United States which he has committed or may have committed or taken part in” from Jan. 1, 2014, through Dec. 1, 2024. That language mirrors the language in Ford’s pardon of Nixon, which did not merely cover the Watergate scandal but extended to “all offenses against the United States” that Nixon “has committed or may have committed” between Jan. 20, 1969, and Aug. 9, 1974 — the exact span of Nixon’s presidency.
Hunter's pardon is broader than Nixon's.

Nixon wasn’t already convicted nor was he pardoned by his dad. The Nixon pardon also avoided a serious Constitutional issue over the limits of Presidential powers.

Whereas Hunter’s pardon doesn’t matter at all and will be ancient history by next week.

This feels like the type of low stakes corruption that you'd have to really work to get upset about. A father pardoned his idiot son - who cares?
