It has been quite some time since I revisited this rendition, maybe not quite twenty years but close:

A tape of Bruce/ESB rehearsing in the studio from 1982 just got leaked.

It includes Reason to Believe: https://youtu.be/p9q-zcq5rlI?si=qT2gMUVM4qXewHmH

The channel has a few more uploads from it.

It sure is. Looking forward to listening to the remaster from the new set, the electric versions sound tremendous. With that said after living with these songs for so long, the album versions especially, the renditions here are enjoyable but I doubt any will be my go-to. Damn happy they got released though.

I queued up the studio album playlist for the pup this morning and Downbound Train was first to play. The tone of the album version fits with the other Nebraska tracks but as the quicker rockabilly attempt the demo has I agree it didn't really work.

The EN version of "Atlantic City" is such a disappointment. Getting a full band cut of that song has been my #1 most-wanted Springsteen recording for a long time, but this version is so listless and dull. I want a studio recording of the full band version they play live, which is full of energy. I'm doomed to never be able to fully enjoy this song.

On the other hand, the EN version of "Downbound Train" is kind of awesome. What a deranged way to perform that song. Like cocaine-fueled psychobilly or something.

I was really curious of your take on this, I feel like Atlantic City is the one track that never left rotation since inception and had the highest bar. I will say this set had me immediately revisit Live in Dublin right after, for those tracks they might be the finest released.

Boss: "Stevie, have you been good?"

SVZ: "uh, uh, uh... sure Boss"

Boss: "no fuckin' way!"
