Grohl is quite old school in his approach - he recently bought that old analogue beast of a board for his personal studio.

Doesn't mean he doesn't use those kind of techniques or anything, of course.

That's entirely normal in all sorts of music. Copy and pasting entire choruses is not.

Last time I heard Foo Fighters' music it didn't sound very oldskool in its approach. Some of those albums are pretty damn shiny, especially something like The Colour and The Shape.

I don't think it is. Having seen them live several times, they are a tight band and could easliy pull these off.

What we do know (if my memory serves - the link above isn't the quote I was looking for) is that they wanted to step away from the Pro Tools approach for a few albums (around Binaural/Riot Act). To me, that meant they didn't want "perfect" and wanted more "authentic" instead. It also meant they had used Pro Tools in the albums before. So, from my vantage point, one of the many reasons for that move may have been this sort of vocal track editing, which can lend songs to sound too perfect (for lack of a better word) for some people's ears. That's all.

I don't know, but I would bet it was possible to do this sort of thing potentially through their entire career. So, I think it's very possible it was used even on the very early albums.

No you didn't, but this is a guy who re-recorded all of the drum tracks himself because they didn't sound right.

And also spent a million on what was effectively the demos for One by One because they weren't right.

Django, I am not trying to insult Dave and the Foo Fighters. Calm down. I am simply saying that it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if they occasionally clip short stops and starts to make them sound sharper, not because the Foo Fighters are Satan's minions, but because plenty of bands do this.

Somehow it didn't ever occur to me that you wouldn't just paste in a chorus if you wanted them to sound exactly the same. It's different on a ballad maybe, or a song with some emotional build though I guess.

Though it wouldn't be hard to sing it twice for the sake of keeping it natural sounding, but MYM is all pro toolsy and unnatural already, all those precise stops and shit. Maybe it would bug me more on a song I liked more, Idk.

I enjoy the song for what it is (a generic punk song). I'm not entirely convinced the stops are unnatural, to be honest; I've always wondered why people here thought they were. The first one certainly has guitars screaming over it, so that's untouched. The final one may have been clipped a bit, but that's been done in punk before, and it's undoubtedly done on a lot of metal. A cut-and-paste job on the vocals would bother me more than all that.

Sorry yeah doesn't automatically mean they were unnaturally produced. I always Just prefer hearing guitars ring out and shit sounding less clean.

Foo fighters had that whole ' woo garages woo analogue' thing going on for thier last album and that's all I remember from the last foo fighters album.

I just think without any proof of this actually happening, it's damaging to a bands reputation even if it's just idle speculation.
