Wow, loving it so far. Better than expected, a few surprises like the three opening tracks which gel well together. Probably the best album start they've done in years. MFS is quite different, it may grow on me or I may start to dislike it, too soon to tell.

Infallible was so much more pop sounding than the soundcheck version, still enjoyed it though. Pendulum was a big surprise, quite liked it.

Not sure about SW, I don't dislike it but it sounds more like a b-side, and would've slotted into LD quite well.
More to come...
You've tactically avoided any talk of Sirens, right?
Sort of, most of us have already heard it anyway. I also didn't talk about LB, too. My main focus is on the new tracks, but I'm not skipping them as I want to hear the album as a whole. :)
Oh I C. Somehow I didn't think you'd heard it, my bad.
Yeah, I heard MYM, Sirens, LB and FD. Didn't listen a lot though. Avoided the 4 song leak like the plague.

OK, had to delay the remainder due to dealing with a few things including cleaning up the snot factory (the little one has a cold).

Here we go.

Second half is pretty good. LTRP is nice and bluesy, SBM is ok but I'm not really happy it's on there. Love YM, great strong track that soars. FD, well... feels like a 'the end' finish, it's ok.

I think the album has a lot of room to grow. The choppy feel of the play order seems strange, but I think it gives the album some character. It might make more sense after further listens.

I'm still undecided. It doesn't sound much different from the live version. I'm not a big fan of the muted opening guitar riff, that and much of the song feels choked. I think this song could've benefited from more if a 'loose' feel, not only in the playing style but with the sound of the guitars (open chords and even the distortion).
Please forgive my lack of reviewing skills, I've tried to keep these short and sweet.

thats fair. I think the tightness may be there to accentuate the rapid builds since this song jumps from peak to peak with little space in between, but I would love to hear it looser for a comparisob

Really you should be grinding a gif for each song

Now, that sounds like a great idea. After a couple more listens, I'll add some.
Spoiler: show
Just to add to my thoughts on the song LB, it's actually stuck in my head now. It's copped a lot of flack for that chorus, but boy it is catchy.

For me, it's all designed to build up to that explosive final loud verse, before the Springsteen-esque outro. Everything else began to get into my brain after I realised how much I loved that climax. Matt's doing some great smashing around with fills and accents there, Ed is screaming tastefully, and the outro is very Betterman-esque imo.

After another listen, this is starting to make more sense. It does open up a lot more throughout the song. While the chorus is fairly immediate, the complete song is more of a grower.

Well, I'm really glad I stayed in this club. Very much worth it, and I'd happily do it again.

Shouldn't you be perfecting your formula to figure out what the best album is? Why the fuck are you over on the Pit? Get back to work.

His avatar is actually a virtually generated image based on the collective envisioning of RM.

In essence, he's sex on legs.

It's true. Also, that's exactly what I look like. And the Ten Club has hired me to personally deliver your copy of Lightning Bolt to Central Illinois, so be prepared to see that afro through your peephole in the very near future.

Cool! I think you mentioned you were at a 2000 PJ show in Chicago. Maybe you're the frowed-out dude my friends and I saw pealin-out of the parking lot in a 1950's something or other while jamming to something PJ, I think it might have been Coruroy or at least something off Vitalogy. True story. I remember thinking that dude was the essence of cool.
