The cartoon is probably more problematic than the movie.
Continues a proud tradition of 80s cartoons that absolutely did not give a fuck.

It's weird because the premise of the cartoon is that he's best friends with Lydia. I grew up watching it, not the movie, so when I finally watched the movie I was very surprised to find that he was actually the bad guy!

wtf. Geezes christ. So, they wanted a dune movie not based on dune?
But why stop there? To quote Sturtevant, the historian, "maybe, just maybe, this is not the f--king time" for another Dune adaptation. Or, at least, not one that has so little interest in challenging its source text in any significant way. Perhaps it's not that Dune is cursed — it's that we haven't managed to take its caution against hero-worship to heart: Villeneuve should have realized idolizing Herbert's story would only lead him astray.
That was such a mind numbing read and it hurt my brain piecing together all that mental gymnastics for not liking the movie.

The plot of Dune is also super convoluted.
I hope I like the movie. I remember enjoying the original film in my youth but maybe i just enjoyed being stuck in my dark basement with candy and popcorn for 4 hours.
