Impeachment is not justicible to the point of whether its applicable to former executives is still up to the Legislature. Can we look forward to such consistent takes on other issues going forward?

Sounds like Trump's defense in the impeachment is going to be "I'm still President, so I can do what I want." That should go well, since the Republicans' main argument is that you can't impeach someone who is not still President.

He doesn't need a defense. He knows he's not going to get convicted. This is going to be a MAGA rally. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the RS show up in their Trump swag.
