This album is starting to piss me off

I doubt this would be the second single. The actual tweet wasn't even posted by Pearl Jam's account, they just reposted one by CBS.
I'm not hating anything about the clip. I don't expect a cute song about parenting to be an album standout. Probably just a break from the heaviness of the rest of the album. The Spin article described it as:
'There’s even a song about parenting, “Something Special,” which Vedder said at the Troubadour was co-written with touring member Josh Klinghoffer.'

How long until Josh is a full-time member?

For me, it just has to not suck and I'm fine with it. I've tolerated at least one song on most PJ albums that isn't my type. If that song is not egregiously bad, I'm OK with it.

Buckle up is a phenomenal song you cretin
I too love Buckle Up, but that description of it was hilarious.

Yay, second single and first throwaway track, just like Gigaton!
Very Pearl Jam of them

So far it’s skippable.
Also a pee break in the set.
And that clip’s edit to the song outro should be a fireable offense.

Something Special sounds like it will be a Buckle Up, Sleeping By Myself, Parachutes-type song for the album. I’d have to listen to the whole song but this was my least favorite tease from the metal door clips. I don’t think this would be a good choice for a second single though.

It's great and I also look forward to the last track on the next album being about the joys of grandparenting.

It sounds more commercial than those songs, though (except for maybe "Sleeping By Myself").
Say what you will about "Buckle Up" and "Parachutes" but they're pretty quirky songs, with some off-kilter stuff going on. This seems a lot catchier and more accessible from what we've heard

Actually play "Buckle Up" and then the "Something Special" clip and the latter sounds like Blues Traveler in comparison

For all the talk about production and mixing and what not I still don’t get why anyone would choose to make the drums sound the way they do. What logical, technical, or creative reason is there to make them sound flat? Genuine non-rhetorical question. I don’t understand what purpose it serves, or it’s drive n by or required by other production choices.

As long as it's not "Future Days", I think I'll survive. Really not a big deal for me at this stage for the band to put one such song on an album. I don't see how/why they'd release it as the next single, though. I'm perplexed if that's their intention. So many other songs on the metal door leak sound like potential singles. This was the only one I'd probably say shouldn't be a single.

If they were thinking something mellower for the next single, I'm pretty sure Wreckage would be a better option. Or even Got to Give, going by the Spin article descriptions of these songs:
The album opens with the driving, major-key rocker “Scared of Fear,” with Vedder reminiscing to a subject only he knows, “We used to laugh, we used to sing, we used to crash, we used to believe.” And while arena-ready songs such as “React, Respond” and “Running” find Pearl Jam at their heaviest on an album in some time and “Waiting for Stevie” has an almost Singles-era classic Pearl Jam feel, Dark Matter also dials down the bombast with nods to the chiming, acoustic-flavored sound of the late Tom Petty on “Wreckage” and “Got To Give.” There’s even a song about parenting, “Something Special,” which Vedder said at the Troubadour was co-written with touring member Josh Klinghoffer.

same, if it's not completely horrible and doesn't ruin the album I'll allow it
as an aside, at the moment I really dislike the way the drums sound, but all the stupid sports cheering is putting all the rest of the music in the background, so until that's got rid of and I can hear what else is going on instrumentally and in terms of arrangement, I can't properly evaluate it

I enjoy para way, way more than buckle.
Not close in my mind.

I just keep thinking of how much cooler it would be if it was drummed in the same way "Indifference" was
but that boat sailed a long time ago and it's fine
