The salt and fat of the bacon is there to enhance the sweet acidity of the delicious tomato.

You've got it backwards. The song originally grouped them together as "the rest," then was changed to actually name them. Just like one with an adolescent bacon-fixated mind thinks it's all about the crunchy pork, but eventually one matures to accept the tomato's role as the real star of the show
