I am weirdly getting the sense that Sanders might be the best bet, mostly at this point because he seems unfazed by the media circus that keeps bringing everyone else down. We’ll see how the storm this week rides out as the media hits the panic button on the ratings bonanza of the primary season effectively ending too son for their liking, but if he is as unapologetic as he usually is, he is actually playing with the same formula Trump rode to Washington 4 years ago. The “yeah I said it!” strategy of handling the media, who can’t effectively derail you if you are not sorry.

Anybody see the story this week where Ronnie Jackson talks about hiding cauliflower in Trump's mashed potatoes? I think it was supposed to make Trump seem manly in a stubborn sort of way but to me it's more obvious: he's having a hard time swallowing due to his dementia. Also read yesterday he refused to eat what India prepared for him, which made me think: when was the last time anyone saw this guy eat in public? He probably makes a mess and doesn't want anyone to see his pureed food.

even if Bernie wins, and we are mercifully granted a respite from Trump, we'll still be dealing with an ineffective blowhard who, while he certainly won't be the disaster Trump is, will upend the Democratic party while simultaneously tarnishing his brand of ideology for the next 20 years or so...

I predict that after four years of Bernie, the party will be massively split, with one half beating the "SEE?! Socialism doesn't work!" message for years.

I'm even more exhausted just imagining the next few years of my life.

Don't be. Except that nat'l politics is largely a dog-and-pony show, and get involved at the local and state level. You'll feel way less stressed about everything.

I bet people thought Lindsey Graham and all the other hypocrite republicans were going to push back against Trump during his term too. We all saw how that worked out. The moderate Dems like power just as much as anyone else.

the key difference here is Senate control

but that's what i was arguing about 2 weeks ago. because republicans are going to control the senate, none of the extreme positions that appeals to Bernie's supporters has any chance at surviving. and so if they are simply going to be watered down to the point where they resemble more moderate positions, what separates Bernie from those moderates?

Well I think that's the difference between Sanders and Warren:

Sanders won't water them down, and he'll effectively be gridlocked in the Senate while touting the merits of socialist-democracy all the way.

Warren will water them down because she knows how to compromise. And while the Bernie bros will forever say she's not pure enough, she has a much better chance of at least moving the needle a hair to the left.

All you really need to do for reassurance on this one is look back at the Obamacare fight.

I just don't think any Democratic president will get anything through a Republican Senate. If Pres. Warren takes office Jan. 20 and a Supreme Court justice drops dead the next day (and the Senate is still Republican) that seat is staying empty until the Senate or the President changes. If they're going to get anything done, I think any Democratic president will have to use executive orders and be willing to bend and break norms the way this administration has done. I don't think that's necessarily a good thing, I just think that's what is.

I'm sure someone can tell me I'm wrong, but isn't discovery where something like this can shoot them in the foot?

Seth Abramson thinks so, and he seems to believe the article while factual, actually went easy on Trump.

Truth is a defense to libel, but by the time there would be any trial it would be irrelevant as the election will long since have passed.

I think the goal is to have the Supreme Court overturn NYT v. Sullivan, which set a very high bar for libel convictions.

I just saw a clip of Drumpf as a guest on Letterman in 1987.

If I’m honest the guy was likeable back then.
