Because people actually listen to the guitars.
Is that a joke?
Not really.
Most people are pretty passive about listening to the drums.
Except for ones that aren't, right?
I don't see why this erases the fact that it happened, and people who will notice it will be totally turned off by the video just as I was.
Yeah, but the vast majority of the people who have watched that video didn't notice and don't care.
Same could be said for the concerts I suppose. I argue they're too often a shoddy live band these days and get shot down for it all the time. This place is really good at voicing criticisms unless it's about the wrong stuff.

Quote from my dad who knows pretty much all the albums really well, has been to 4 shows, but has never been on any of these boards or anything like that:
"Ya know jake, I listened to Backspacer today, and I realized I do know most of the songs, but after listening to it I thought that their older albums are just much more melodic and really...*pause* inspired"
Again, his opinion hasn't been corrupted by these boards at all.
Just thought it was kinda funny

It's true, they are more important to most people.
But that's OK, when the whole of 'Infallible' is released and is totally stripped of guitars, I'll be enjoying it for that awesome groove Matt is playing there.

at the end of the day, if it is a problem then it's the band's fault for not doing another take. you can't expect matt to not make any slightly out of time fills ever his whole lyfe. but it's not a problem.

Well, I don't think Matt should've made the mistake; it was a very easy mistake to avoid because he does nothing clever in that spot. But you're right, the band should've had another take. Just, from reading comments online, a lot of people don't even know this was live and it's just a sloppy studio version.

which official single video had real live audio when dave a was in the band? none of em. matt messing up is
not this band's main concern right now. it's one little out of time fill, it really doesn't matter. the band could have done another take but it's not important enough. it re-enforces the live feel.
Even Flow and Alive were live, right? Both drummed perfectly.
The rest, well that's, like, your opinion man. It's two out of time fills. It doesn't keep me up at night, but I read people commenting on lack of guitar, wrong chords, etc. etc. all the time, but when I mention a drummer's mistakes it's relegated to a non-issue. That's kind of how the drums are treated by guitar fans, though, and that's fine with me.
even flow was a re-recording done in-studio, and alive had matt chamberlain not dave a.
it's just that this mistake isn't as bad as playing the wrong chords or some of those awful mistakes mike makes. it's just a little out-of-time fill.
Regardless, they were both played without mistakes. To us this is just another live video, and the fans know PJ occasionally get things wrong live. To everyone else it's the official single video. They can't seriously expect to take on new fans if they make flubs like this. It looks amateurish to everyone outside the fanbase.
It's not major enough for people to notice. If you actually think people will think they're "amaturish" because of this ... just ... wow. I think you are vastly overestimating most people's musical perception.
Perhaps we can agree to disagree?

That's not really what I was saying, no; but the one in the clip has very neutered guitars and two or three people pointed it out. There will be people wanting louder guitars on it.

you don't have to be corrupted by any boards to think it's a shitty album, that's for sure.

I'm not trying to enforce the 'Matt fucked up on purpose" rumour. But I seem to remember back in the day (maybe it's in SVT?), EV quoting something about not striving for perfection in studio and film clip performances. His feeling was that those little minor fuck ups are what gives a performance character. If you make it 'perfect' then it feels lifeless and stale.
Maybe he's gone back to his older ways, and is not "fixing" things any more.

That's very interesting, and somewhat reassuring. I may even get a couple of hours sleep tonight!

wait, do we now hate the Sirens video version?
Because about 150 pages back, people were creaming their pants about it.

Then how do we explain the rest of Sirens? Its about as boring, lifeless and stale as it gets....
