What party would back Kanye? Would anybody at all with any idea of how to function in office link up with his campaign? I would go down this rabbit hole further but its so incredibly stupid that I just can't go there.

In my experience the worst part of the American bipartisan system is the complete inability of most people to take an even remotely nuanced view of the other side. There are millions of people in this country, each with a unique set of values and experiences, and every four years each of those people is asked to somehow reconcile how that unique unique set of values conforms to one of two (or four, if you're a dreamer) pre-packaged political platitude kits, and somehow people fail to understand that there might anything other than the most one-dimensional psychology behind how the human brain processes this. "You voted this way, therefore you believe this, or you must think this way, or you must not care about this list of things, otherwise you'd have chosen differently." With 300 million people and only two political candidates, this simply can't be true as often as people seem to think it is.

I have no idea what role Kanye West might have in the future of our nation, but his concept that you can't expect change if you can't even reduce yourself to a conversation with the guy who has the most power to affect it seems not only reasonable but stupidly self-evident. That or it really is just a huge publicity stunt, in which case I simply choose to see it as a good thing that Trump having seemingly pleasant interactions with people of color.

and there is nothing to suggest that Trump is about this more than publicity or that Trump is excited to have another "look at my african american over there"

I think these are related. That we are having an earnest conversation about which of these two Twitter-driven fame-addicts would make a better president is one of many cultural signs for a renewal in earnestness in not just art, but thought, action, all facets of life...

It's too big a discussion for me to tackle right now.

But to the matter at hand: Kanye is trying to angle his celebrity into something political. He's not the first to do it. DiCaprio, Clooney, Heston, many others have done it. As it relates to the man's art, the arena for which he is most widely known and arguably the most talented is, is his music. I see a reasonably easy path for his channeling his anger into a more radio-friendly version of Yeezus, that sounds awesome, blows people's minds, and goes down like the next Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. He could give the profits to charities or PACs or something.

Should he continue to play the fame game, in both his art and politics, this would be both very egotistical and very boring to me.

I feel like the world is in a real bad place right now, and people should be getting earnest about how they are contributing. Kanye West is at the top of the game. I hope he uses his position with good sense and great care for the planet, whatever that looks like.

(If not, your language doesn't suggest such.) And while I understand the surface level train of thought behind that statement, logically it doesn't check out.

At worst Kanye and Trump are two celebrities schmoozing. Why is this bothersome? Is it just the latest thing that people are latching onto in the neverending crusade to convince LV to stop liking Kanye?
