As I mentioned yesterday in tinychat, I have Blindness in the pile of to-be-read-books on my bedside table right now. I read and loved his Cain a few months ago, and have been meaning to get to some of his other stuff. Unfortunately, I'm like 200 out 1000 pages into this beast
Image

and I had to pause this one mid-way through
Image

so that I could get through this 700-pager in the two weeks the library allows me to have it

I hope to have the headspace/read-time to dig into the Saramago soon...

it's brand new so there are other people requesting it so they won't let me renew, no. They'll start charging me 25 cents a day!

My library has overdue fees but they disappear as soon as you return the book so why bother having overdue fees?

I found his prose style to be needlessly difficult and obtuse, without any real payoff for the effort. I think McCarthy handles the "run on sentence/constant train of thought" approach so much better.
Interesting, because I'm the exact opposite. I adore Blindness (probably my second favorite book that I've ever read) and have enjoyed a lot of Saramago's other work.

McCarthy is much more difficult for me. The Road was an easy enough read. But everything else I've tried has been a slog. I had to put down Blood Meridian after about 75 pages.
