Got in a good one last night. Been on an every other day schedule lately but going to double up & go back tonight.

Left my headphones at home today. Between the annoying douche chatter and terrible gym music, my workout is going to blow today.

About 45 minutes of weights last night; no real cardio though.

Did better today. Longer weight session & 15 minutes on the treadmill.
Light crowd for a Saturday morning, maybe the resolutioners are dying off & it will be back to being the regulars.

not sure what to do for tonight, im done working out at my friends house who was teaching me some different lifts so im supposed to be back to the gym tonight, but my right shoulder is bothering me a bit and im not sure what from. im sure its not a good idea to work shoulders which is supposed to be part of tonights workout, but it might not be a great idea for me to do stuff like incline bench either.
should i treat the slight pain in my one shoulder as in injury and not work it at all, or should i try to go light to see how it feels and hope its just extra soreness from it possibly doing more work then the other shoulder?

Does it feel like you impinged it - you feel pain lifting your right arm over your head? I wouldn't tempt a possible rotator cuff injury. I wouldn't go anywhere near shoulder exercises/incline bench for at least a few days. Then, maybe try some really light exercises and see how it feels.

I've got a small amount of pain any time i move my arm but mostly if i lift it up, so ill probably need to find other things to work on this week

I know some people frown on discussing yoga, but it can address some alignment issues.

Since I've worked on alignment I feel like I have the lower back of a 30 year old. In an average daily situation i have to lift a heavy box, or a rock. Its part of my natural form to lift with my legs.

Doesn't Chloe do yoga?. Ask her about Iyengar.

im wanting to start going to some yoga classes soon anyway because i was never very flexible, and lifting weights is making it worse  so i will definitely look into that

Start at home so you can learn what asana is what. That way if the yogi starts speaking sanskrit you'll at least have a fighting chance.

It can have an incredible impact on one's life. So much so they get really into it.

I'll bet Strat can do a mean crow, though.

lift until it falls off

i have a buddy who teaches mma and cross fit classes and talks about something called "active recover". the idea is to exercise the injured area with light weights or little resistance so you get blood flowing to the injured body part. whenever i feel pain i stretch that part of my body like a mofo.

Normally I would agree with you, but if it's a torn rotater cuff you could cause it to heal incorrectly without some professional guidance.

and stretching it "like a mofo" will probably injure it more

ignore everything i said lol

the shoulder is a pretty complex joint. it probably depends where it hurts. whenever i do chest or shoulder press my coracoid process hurts like a bastard, but i know its just from working out. if it hurts in a place i cant touch i wouldnt do anything with it but maybe ice and some light stretching.

also, smoking pot helps.

While I like the "lifting till muscle failure" approach to fitness (xfit) i cannot agree with that spot recovery shit. That is just horrible. The body needs to rest and rejuvenate. Of course, it all depends on the severity of it. Gentle range of motion and stretching to keep it loose and get the blood moving is certainly an important aspect of healing.

Hit the gym one last night. With the forecast like it is the next few days I wanted to get one in before the weather turned; looks like it will be a few days before I get back.
