Other than Talking at the Same Time and Get Lost, I'd say every song on that record is okay. But Pay Me and the b-side Tell Me are the only two that actually impacted me in any way.

The title track I really hated at first, but I came to a point with it where....eh....it's kinda fun.

Easily the least remarkable Tom Waits album since the 70's.

Gotta agree. Awesome tune.

It's alright, and it's got some fantastic moments, but I think mostly it stands out because it's the one non-ballad on the whole record that actually feels like a "heavy" Tom Waits song. It's got the abnormal percussion, studio sound, strange arranging....it's got a real link to things like Real Gone, Blood Money, and Bone Machine. In general, most of the record does not.

I'd easily put it in my top 3 Waits songs (just don't ask me to populate the rest of the list without second-guessing myself). It's a harrowing listen, I always feel drained after going through it.

Edit: Earth Died Screaming would be up there, probably. Sounds like a skeleton band using their bones as percussion.

Personally I would be a lot more patient if they hadn't set me up to be poised for more disappointment with every recent album release. I'm just really glad to be liking what I'm hearing.

What, me listening to the leaks? No. But a lot of the expectations falling? Yes, it's partly their fault.

Obviously we have never met, and I really have no clue on this, but my impression is if anyone is going to talk themselves OUT of liking the songs it will be you! hahah

Hope you love them however and stay the course on why you do like them thus far. I'm more convinced than ever that I've been waiting for this album for a lot of years and got it.

Absolutely. My feelings about PJ are conflicted at the moment, sure, but I'm going to like this album I think. As long as I keep it that simple everything will be OK.
