Really enjoyed Gemini Man. Especially enjoyed the technical presentation: 4K HDR in 60fps. Magnificent. So fascinating to watch a genre movie like this with the distancing veneer of “movie” all but utterly removed - we’re talking near total immersive realism in visual terms. HFR is almost like a whole new visual medium; I hate that no one besides Ang Lee seems to be embracing if.

Cool.
It’s like the audio quality thing. There’s a limit to how much depth you can see or hear I reckon.
Retina burning definition and technology sorta scares me

Part of this movie takes place in Cartagena so I want to watch it, but I have heard nothing but horrible things about it (aside from this post, which tracks!)LoathedVermin72 wrote:Really enjoyed Gemini Man. Re: What movies are you watching?
I was watching this and that first car chase had me thinking "man, I wish LV were here so I could see the look of joy on his face." The only part that I didn't like was how goofy Ryan played his role only to have him disarm someone at a pro level and have #7 say "we're going to have to talk about this" and they never do but he goes back to being goofy #1. that was literally the only part of the movie I had an issue with because it stopped being a ridiculous movie and took itself seriously for a few seconds so it took you out of what was going on.LoathedVermin72 wrote:6 Underground is a masterpiece. No joke at all.
also: have you watched The Man Who Killed Don Quixote? That's the other movie I watched with WWLVD in my mind because it's so...improper...for what a film should be and do throughout.

Re: What movies are you watching?
I dunno, I don’t think it’s a ridiculous movie; it often takes itself plenty seriously. There’s real emotion and growth at play in the characters and their relationships - that’s one of the reasons I love it. It’s the first movie I’ve ever liked Reynolds in because Bay used his smartass humor as a means of developing the character since he’s a detached guy with a fear of intimacy who’s using it a shield.bune wrote:I was watching this and that first car chase had me thinking "man, I wish LV were here so I could see the look of joy on his face." Have not seen Quixote yet. Gilliam can go either way for me, but Pryce and Driver sure sweeten the deal.

Yeah this movie didn't get ruined by Reynolds being Reynolds, it was enhanced by it. LV, the scene I mentioned earlier, where #4 was making his way down from the penthouse in Hong Kong, I went and watched that again. It was really good.

That whole Hong Kong scene is unbelievable. As is the Florence scene. And the climax on the boat. All legitimately some of the best action ever filmed. Bay is an absolute madman.

Re: What movies are you watching?
I think we are using different meanings of ridiculous because I loved the movie for all the reasons you stated. I'm more referring to the use of explosives in all of the barrels and souvenir stands and the over the top violence and gore (the grenade through the jaw for example) that made the movie amazing, I couldn't stop marveling at it.LoathedVermin72 wrote:I dunno, I don’t think it’s a ridiculous movie; it often takes itself plenty seriously. and yeah, that's a great read on the way Bay used Reynolds.
I need to watch it again to see this.A year prior to the release Ryan Reynolds posted a video on Instagram of himself talking about how quiet Michael Bay's movies are, while in the background a car explodes. This scene is in the movie and you can actually see Reynolds in the background filming the video for this post.
