A24 is such a hipster sham, like 95% of their output sucks
I noticed you mentioned Under the Silver Late in another thread. I saw that on Prime (actually hadn't heard of it until you mentioned it) and was really surprised to see it was A24.LoathedVermin72 wrote:A24 is such a hipster sham, like 95% of their output sucks
It’s a classic A24 move: they finally release a good movie (a GREAT movie, in fact), but after one rocky screening they lost faith in it and essentially tried to bury it. A24 has this image of catering to artists but they’ll turn on one of their movies (and filmmakers) in a second. They’re awful.durdencommatyler wrote:I noticed you mentioned Under the Silver Late in another thread. I really want to watch it. Hopefully tonight or tomorrow. It looks right up my alley.LoathedVermin72 wrote:Absolute masterpiece. Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

You're probably thinking of that HBO show The New Pope or The Young Pope or whatever it is. The Two Popes is a Netflix movietragabigzanda wrote:isn't it a tv show?

Catholicism is not at all what made TTP interesting to metragabigzanda wrote:Random thought: I read a memoir a few years ago called The Little Way of Ruthie Lemming. One aspect of this book was how the author's upbringing in evangelical Christianity sort of prepared him to be attracted to the mysticism of Catholicism later in life.
Having grown up surrounded by Catholics, and watching the church crumble after the abuse scandals, the idea of Catholicism being something "attractive" is simultaneously boring and off-putting for me.
Do you RMers who are watching these pope movies and shows have much first-hand experience with Catholicism, or is it kind of foreign and therefore interesting to you?
