Jorge wrote:The biggest problem with that show is the casting of Gomez Addams. Not because Luis Guzmán is a tremendously ugly man, but because he has no charisma whatsoever.
Do you mean just in this role or in general?

he is alright in terms of casting, the original version looks just like him, but yeah i feel its weird too. Still, i would say the main issue with those two eps, maybe it picks up later, is that they are doing Sabrina or Archie again. It has no personality whatsoever and the storytelling is rushed as fuuuck.

Jenna Ortega is great because she is fucking awesome.

This role. He's all wrong, even if he looks like the original comic strip character. Gomez needs to be suave and charismatic. Guzmán is completely unconvincing trying to pull that off

I haven’t seen Wednesday and don’t plan to, but that’s Raul Julia‘s version of Gomez. The original comics portray him as a hideous but likable schemer and in the old tv show he has a little used car salesman skeevyness.

You may say it
I'm still considering it. Might even upgrade it to "a blast".

I really enjoyed it. As good as the first.

Well, the 90s films are obviously where these characterizations are based on, Wednesday was pretty much a regular kid in the old show. Even so, John Astin is the Gomez I grew up watching on reruns, and he brought a smoothness, sophistication and likeability that is fully missing from Guzman's performance. Even Tim Curry brought this element to the wacky screwball hijinks of that straight-to-video sequel he was in (that I used to own on VHS!).

I cannot imagine Luis Guzman as Gomez. That sounds like awful casting.

Guzman sounded like he needed an oxygen mask on standby. His delivery seemed labored at times. He doesn't sound like that in interviews.

Maybe the Romanian air didn't agree with him.

It really does pull you away from the scenes, I feel it is awful casting as well.

I remember when everyone was happy they would renew shows so they could finish their storylines. Now, its pretty much similar to when NBC or whatever network would cancel any show after three episodes or one season.

Hell, the whole streaming war is pretty much basic cable at this point.

I watched 1899 right after it dropped, and that got me to return to Dark, which I had watched 2 episodes of a few years ago. Honestly, Dark is just heads and shoulders above 1899 in every way, I am not surprised it hasn’t caught on in a similar way. It’s hard not to compare the shows, especially when
Spoiler: show
that line “a glitch in the Matrix” was such an important touchstone in Dark, and then 1899 is basically the Matrix.
