Does the TV show follow the books pretty closely? I'm only starting the second season today and was just curious.
Through season 3 is pretty damned close to the books. Season 1 the dialogue is damn near word for word from book 1.

It gets a little different in season 4 and then after that it's massively different. Sure the "spirit" as stip says might be similar, it's generally the same players vying for the same prize, but I think he's overstating how similar the book and show are post season 4.
I'm only up to S2E3 right now.
Careful in this thread then.
I'm out. I was just curious. Haven't looked at any posts other than ones pertaining to my query.

I would LOVE to see him take the story in a different direction from the show, actually. See an entirely different person end up on the Iron Throne in the books. If such a thing would be narratively possible.
I don't know. I feel like it might cheapen the ending.

I just hope it's good.

Yes, my memories of a series (both books and tv) are often partly connected to if we got a solid ending or not. He just has to deliver.

No WoW until at least 2018 according to Martin's Live Journal page. This thing is never coming out.

The tl;dr version is: "I know you guys want to know how the stories end, but I need to write more prequel stuff."

A shame, but at least he seems to be getting closer to the end. I always hoped that Winds Of Winter would be out before the end of the tv series.

Yeah, I've always been an optimist that he will finish the series, but I'm starting to doubt it more and more.

I really think he will, but look forward to him officially starting on the last book.

He has to finish the sixth book first.

Yeah in Braavos she was warging into Nymeria on the reg. There would be immediate recognition.

They would probably lose about 20 percent of the audience if they had everyone warging. "Too magical!"

It made me sad how they gave Maester Aemon's realization to Missandei.

That the Prince That Was Promised is actually gender neutral and Dany can fulfill the prophecy.

I'm sad for Maester Aemon, not upset with Missandei.

Got it. Just read the chapter where Sam is in Bravos on his way to Oldtown. I totally forgot he ran into Arya.
