Once again Hentgen gets destroyed in a game where I was contemplating moving Halladay up a day to start. Ugh.

How many times are we allowed to start someone on short rest? Four? Or was there a rule to prevent loading up at the end of the season? If I'm allowed, here's what I want to do the rest of the way to take a start away from Hentgen:

Day 22 - Halladay, Clemens
Day 23 - Stieb, Halladay
Day 24 - Clemens, Stieb
Day 25 - Hentgen, Halladay
Day 26 - Clemens, Stieb
Day 27 - Hentgen, Halladay
Day 28 - Clemens, Stieb
Day 29 - Hentgen, Halladay
Day 30 - Clemens, Stieb

Pretty sure you can only do it twice in the second half.

How much do I have to pay Lament to make it happen?

You can do it four times if you haven't done it yet. The only thing is if a guy starts on short rest, he needs full rest before he can start again.

Ok, if that's the case I'll do it as listed above. It basically works out that Stieb gets an extra start and Hentgen loses one, so it's worth it.

Also, more lineup changes in Toronto to try to figure out this 3B issue now that Molitor has a .682 OPS and 10 errors. For some reason it didn't even occur to me that Bautista will likely be a better fielder than Molitor at 3B, while this alignment gets Bell's bat into the lineup. This should load up the offense pretty nicely:

SS - Tony Fernandez
2B - Roberto Alomar
1B - John Olerud
RF - Jesse Barfield
3B - Jose Bautista
LF - George Bell
CF - Devon White
C- Pat Borders

But what if Paul Molitor was your good luck charm?

Well he'll still be on the bench and available to pinch-hit. I'm pretty sure he was negating any luck he provided with his actual performance.

I mapped out a few uses of my short rest starts the other night. I may have to opt to the most urgent of the scenarios I drew up.

Also, I think everyone besides Appling and Mostil are in a slump right now. Thomas is daring to drop below .200. Zeke Bonura is begging for a start.

If the White Sox fall out of contention but Appling is still on a tear, I'm benching him in the hopes of winning a cheapened batting title.

Not to butt in on the Hornsby, Jackson, Appling, Yaz POY award. But you guys seem to be forgetting a hulking lefty 1B on one of baseballs longest running franchises. okay career with a couple great seasons.

and that man is

Cash is definitely in the heart of the debate. But I'm still thinking it's Hornsby's to lose.

Though I dunno...if Hack Wilson ends up hitting 25 home runs in a 60 game season, that'll be hard to vote against.
