I'm reading the new updates to that ILM thread now and - holy shit - I have come this close so many times to starting a thread about this exact kind of pop music and my continuing disgusted amazement at its ubiquity. It drives me bananas, up the wall, totally insane.

that campfire stompy crap is hopefully over now, right? i was listening to a pop radio station and they were enthusiastically advertising a new lumineers album. do people want that?!?

This part of that is still popular in new pop bands right?
The insistence to jam every song with some whoaa-oooo-whooa-oo-whoa!! part that will make crowd participation easy at concerts and is also a cheap device to make songs feel big and anthemic.

Yep. There is some absolute God awful crap out there, for sure. And very popular absolute God awful crap at that.

Yes, that kind of music -- Imagine Dragons, Monsters and Men -- is insufferable.

I really love this Craig Wedren song from the Wet Hot American Summer Netflix series, which probably fits that description

That song didn't do much for me but I'd say it's borderline; the general vibe and instrumentation of the "campfire stompy crap" is definitely there but it doesn't have that calculated crowd-participation element which is what grates on me the most.

Coldplay-itis

Coldplay are a terrible, terrible band, but I think this is something with a different lineage.

I agree with the posters in the original thread about this song perhaps being the starting point of this godawful type of pop music, the first significant hit with this vibe:

I hate that kind of music so, so, so much. So much.

Foo Fighters are a mostly bad band, but "Good Grief" just came on shuffle, and that's a good song.

Foo fighters are probably the most mediocre band in history.

I like quite a few songs from the first two albums and don't mind a lot more, but I never feel the urge to listen to them.

I don't know. I don't own any of these songs or anything. But I quite like both examples that have been posted on this page. I guess I like terrible music, guys.
