Last year, even though I dislike both the Leafs and Bruins, I was kinda cheering for the Leafs.

I don't know if there's any situation in which Montreal could possibly have an edge. Maybe against the Flyers or Senators? Still... probably not.

In lieu of finding a way that both teams can lose... go Boston-ish, I guess.

I've never seen Chara play worse than he did in Game 7.

Montreal deserved to win, period.

Bruins didn't even bother showing up for game 6 and 2/3 of game 7.

I still look forward to Montreal getting steamrolled in the finals by Chicago.

I think Montrealers think beating Boston is nice, but it means nothing if they don't win the Cup

it's one of the few things I respect about Montreal fans...they know that all that really matters is the Cup...anything short of that is not to be celebrated

That's correct, however defeating Boston definitely matters. Not just because of the rivalry but because the Bruins were the best team this year and it solidifies the Habs as one of the top teams in the league. Just two years ago we finished last in the conference.

Here's what Habs fans are thinking at this point, of course this is a sample of 1 + water cooler talk:
Losing in round one to the lightning would've been annoying but you can deal with it.
Losing to the Bruins in Game 6 would've been crushing because it felt like the Habs were going toe-to-toe and deserved a chance at game-7.
Losing last night would've been tough after fighting back in Game-6, but you could brush it off by saying "we took the Bruins to game 7, and that's pretty good"

The Habs have knocked off the top team in the league so I don't want to hear any talk of "steamrolling." The Rangers-Habs series will be extremely tight, but we've had Lundqvist's number for the last few years. If the Habs make the final the only team I don't want to face is LAK. I watched every minute of every game this year, the Habs can play a very good series against ANH or CHI.

It's nice to have the Habs back on planet earth.

It's also nice to send a guy like Milan Lucic back to cottage early.

And i don't appreciate this reverse jinx on the Blackhawks. Enough!

I think Montreal is Boston's worst matchup by far in the entire league. I also never thought I'd say this but by the end of the game last night my respect for Montreal had jumped about 5 notches. The diving/embellishing/dinkish play was held to a pretty fair minimum (and Boston had their own issues with that stuff as well). In other words, I still hate a lot of the crap that comes with the Montreal Canadiens and their fans, but I didn't find this particular group of Montreal Canadiens players despicable (as opposed to say, the Ribeiro bunch from a decade earlier).

I think Montreal beats the Rangers in 6 (because the Rangers just can't score, and Montreal's depth is all around much better than Pittsburgh's; Pittsburgh's top end talent is much higher, but lines 2-4 is pretty much all Montreal, and it was the depth that won that series for the Rangers above all else)

But I don't think Montreal has any chance against Chicago (who are like the Bruins in many ways, but have way more skill up front), who really only finally got healthy when the playoffs started and have been rolling ever since.

You'd stand a better chance against the California teams, but I still just can't see Montreal beating either of those teams in a 7 game series.

Congrats to the Habs. WELL deserved win and screw Lucic if he really did threaten someone during the handshake.

While that was a 7-game series, it really felt like a Montreal sweep...B's were never really into it.

On the flip side, the NHL has to be disappointed, as ratings between a team based in Canada vs. a U.S. based team never rival those of two American cities going after it. Plus, it would have been fun to get that Boston-NY thing going again.

Oh well. Time for baseball.
