I just think he's toying with his legacy. If he wins more titles with a couple of other different teams...I just think that's more likely to be less memorable vs. a lengthy run with one team. He seemed to believe that when he talked about winning 6 or 7 titles.

Every generation has a different idea of what defines a legacy. I think what people who are LBJ's age or older don't get is that he is THE icon and standard for an entire generation of basketball fans who weren't old enough (or even alive) to witness Jordan. Basketball is (pardon the pun) a sport of witnessing moreso than a sport or lore (like baseball, for example). The same way people my age looked at Kareem Abdul-Jabbar or Bill Russell is the same way these kids are going to look at Jordan. Sure, we knew WHAT they accomplished, but that was all irrelevant in the way we interpreted Jordan or Olajuwon or Thomas.

Ten years after LBJ's career is over when the people who grew up with him are the ones controlling the narrative in the sports world whatever he accomplished is going to be what players have to live up to in their eyes. If they grow up as basketball fans watching the premiere talent in the world win 5 or 6 titles by bouncing from team to team, they're not going to think anything of players in the next generation doing the same thing, and it's not going to be something they hold against Lebron because it's just going to be the way they understand sports as working. The same way Jordan elicited responses of "Magic wouldn't have done that" and Kobe got "Jordan wouldn't have done that" and now LBJ gets both "Jordan wouldn't have done that" and "Kobe wouldn't have done that," there is going to be an entire generation who responds to every superstar with "Lebron wouldn't have done that." He will loom every bit as large in the eyes of that generation as Michael, Magic, Bird, Kobe, Shaq, Wilt, Kareem, Russell, or anyone else, and the fact that his career path didn't fit into the one the generation before him wanted him to take isn't going to mean anything to the generation that ultimately ends up defining his legacy.

to say Chandler has been injury prone the last couple seasons is an understatement. oh, and when he's good on defense he's just that...good. too many times he disappears. i love the guys heart though.

Everybody looks like shit on defense when your on a team with Melo. Your pretty much guarding 5 guys with 4 people.

I have to think this Melo to the Mavs talk is nonsense. No way Carlisle would want Melo on his team.

Both TC and Felton have a year left, which means they'll both be busting their asses in a contract year. Sure, we'll miss the 3-point offense that Calderon gave us, but TC's off/def presence down low is a no-brainer trade for that. Besides, TC is loved in Dallas. He is as much of a reason for the 2011 championship as anyone who was in that locker room (besides Dirk, of course). This deal frees up $26.5M to re-sign Dirk, and possibly get KLove or LAldridge next summer. We still have Monte Ellis, and it'll be fun as fuck to watch the two big men, Dirk and Tyson, playing together again. After the bullshit of the past three years, this trade sounds like a lot of fun will be had next year, watching the Mavs!

Good luck to NY, trying to get Queen LaBronda or 'Mello. We don't want 'em!

Melo hater! that's just ridiculous and i'm not no Meloite. i watch almost all Knicks games (oh the humanity) and Chandler can be good. but when he disappears it's no one's fault but his own. he is by no means defensively dominate or a game changer. he's an instant upgrade for rebounding. hope the best for him, seems like a good guy. just needs to stay healthy and stop with the stupid fouls.

I think Chandler is a good guy, plays tough, and all the stuff you love, but at the same time, he's 31 and hasn't exactly been injury free lately. The Mavs gave up a lot and had to take Felton back. I feel like the Knicks won that trade for sure.

I think it's a win-win. Those other guys we gave up we're spares, and we gave up 2 2nd round picks, like 34 and 51. So what? Tyson is ONLY 31y.o. and it's amazing how much LESS players get hurt in contract years. Gotta admit, I haven't really kept up with him since he left, but the Mavs were going nowhere fast before this trade. He will get a hero's welcome when he takes the court.

I do hate Melo, because unlike someone like Steve Nash, who I think is/was simply not capable of playing good defense, Melo is more than capable of it. He has shown many flashes of being able to play solid D, but simply refuses to give a shit.

That was my initial reaction, but I wouldn't be surprised if try at least go into next season with both of them.

I don't know the answer to this, but do teams trading away a star tend to do better when trading him between seasons or within a season?
