as far as overfloater goes, i've said this earlier in this thread but i don't know if there's another song i can think of that builds layer by layer to a climax so perfectly.

Very intriguing. Other than the main character seeming to be in some kind of depression, I got no real sense of what the story is. Definitely interested enough to see what's going on. Cool trailer. Is it out yet?

Ok. I put on King Animal for the first time in a couple years yesterday and I pretty much stopped at By Crooked Steps. Jesus Christ what a song!! I bet I've listened to it 10-15 times over the last couple days.

(I did actually play the whole album, too.)

So I'm kind of thinking about expanding my Z-Sides set to have a disc for every album. The first disc would stay more or less the same (given that there are not many recordings from that time period, and the disc is almost perfect); the reunion-era disc would also stay pretty much the same because I really can't top it. The rest would be one disc for every album cycle, from Louder Than Love through Down on the Upside. I don't feel like all of the albums are fully, truly represented in the set.

So for example, here's a tracklist I quickly threw together for the DOTU era:

1. Waiting For the Sun [Irvine, 8/03/1996]
2. Pretty Noose [Irvine, 8/03/1996]
3. Head Down [Glasgow, 9/16/1996]
4. Ty Cobb [Glasgow, 9/16/1996]

7. Rhinosaur [Glasgow, 9/16/1996]
8. Switch Opens [Rotterdam, 10/11/1996]
9. Never the Machine Forever [Denver, 11/07/1996]
10. No Attention [Chicago, 11/09/1996]
11. Blow Up the Outside World [Oakland, 12/05/1996]
12. Burden in My Hand [MTV Europe fall 1996]

Hey Matt did you ever get round to finishing your remaster of this? The original was awesome. I've picked some great options for a best of king animal tour live comp if the interest is there.

For a band that's notoriously strict on live recordings - they even denied German TV station WDR permission to broadcast a full pro-shot show in 2012 - they have officially released some crappy performances recently. Chris' vocals on most of 'Live on I5' comes to mind! Also, 'Get on the Snake' from Louder Than Live and 'Pretty Noose' from SNL were released on Telephantasm.

I do question Cornell's quality control sometimes. Some of those professionally recorded Audioslave live sets...he sounds absolutely dreadful (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yjlpPQ-UYU)

I don't know what he did between Audioslave and Soundgarden reuniting (quitting cigarettes?) but I'm glad he did, he sounds a lot better these days.

It amazing how a guy can have such a truly golden voice in the studio, yet not at all in a live setting.
