Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Let's just hope he hasn't seen Howl's Moving Castle, it will be his own personal Plato's cave.

I think you guys are trying to find extreme or obscure examples to his statement, when in fact his post is correct. Unless you are talking about the animated film "Cars". Those are both characters and automobiles

A popular and well-known story is an extreme or obscure example? News to me.
What about the house in Mother! Is that not both intentionally and symbolically represented as a character of its own?

You guys are being deliberately dense with these clearly different examples. If a non-human object such as a house or a car exhibits sentience or will in a story, that’s obviously something totally different than saying the house in Parasite or NYC in a Woody Allen movie is “a character.”

maybe the house was the parasite all along.

...in your interpretation. Others might experience it differently, which was my whole point.

We are only talking about this because someone said "I thought and felt this" and you said " no, you didn't" which I find extremely asinine.

I already covered this. We’re not talking about personal experience or feelings here.
