Never Destination is a top tier Gigaton song for me, but my only gripe is the two names in that verse. I had to look up who these people were, I just don't understand why they ended up here. Maybe I've missed the explanation?

those two names are the rare place on this record where it feels like he put placeholder stuff in that fit the meter, and then just left it there.

There was a theory in the Superblood Wolfmoon thread that the song was about Dolores O'Riordan (singer of The Cranberries). Supposedly, she died around the time of an actual superblood wolfmoon and some lyrics could fit that narrative.

When the leak happened, I believe some heard the "Thank you Bob Honey" line as "Thank You Mudhoney," which would have been much cooler.

Despite it being my favourite song on the album which I’ve listened to a bunch of times, my ear is yet to hear/register this line.

Sections of this song honestly sound like Jim Carrey vocal warmups to me, and I am here for it.

They do feel like placeholders. Maybe the original placeholder was "Thank you Tom Petty" but that was too obvious and somehow, someway we are left with Bob Honey.

I swear when I posted that I was thinking/hoping these names were interchangeable. Like, fuck these people, we're gonna add our own tribute here.

to which gigaton is in many ways a direct response. Much in the same way that S/T is in direct conversation with Riot Act and Backspacer with both. It is pearl jam and eddie’s go to themes are going to recur, but Lightning Bolt was also really introducing a new set of themes. Backspacer really marks the end of a particular journey that started with Ten. Lightning Bolt asks what’s next? Gigaton tries to answer that. Pretty successfully, at least for now. But Eddie is an autobiographical writer, and life goes on

Yeah, Gigaton feels like a statement. It's like they're firmly planting the flag in the ground for rock and roll. It's a rallying call for the misfits, punks and outcasts to unite against the commercilization of music and the #YOLO #SWAG shit that pollutes the charts today. Gigaton is attacking so called 'musicians' like Taylor Swift, Kanye West, Justin Bieber and Drake. Rock and roll was reborn on March 27 2020 and its name was Gigaton.

Hmm. That's interesting. I don't think I've heard the album on those terms.

I'm not a Lightning Bolt hater by any stretch, but I haven't listened to it since Gigaton came out. To be honest, it's going to be a while.
