Seriously though, they are both songs with very loose song structures and a bit of Ed mumbling and not much of a chorus.

And it's not to say it's bad... I really like it as-is. However if they were going to put it on an album in what Pearl Jam would consider "finished form", then it would most likely be quite different than what we've got here.

And that's why I asked why these songs are necessarily 'better' than LB or FD. The chances are that if they'd ever got 'finished', we would have thought they sucked.

c) ed sounds horrible
d) doesn't sound like a (finished) pearl jam song

all kidding aside. I think this is related to liking the Fixer demo. It takes a lot of imagination to imagine that demo to be the superior song. It's just sort of unusual and that fits some people's taste better.

Yeah, that's it. All I'm saying is that we can't judge these two 'unfinished' songs as objectively better than the other two finished songs, simply because we don't know they're finished. All we can say is that we prefer them in their current state as we have it. It's very likely that under the direction of whoever produced S/T (I can't remember), CC would've become Inside Job. We're lucky to have got it before it did, but even if it gets released later on as part of this legendary Lost Dogs 2, we don't know if it'll be any good.

Can i think that these two songs even in thier 'unfinished' states are better than LB and FD are ever gonna be? Cause i do. I wasn't really expecting finished versions to pop up anytime soon. And if finished versions that were awful popped up, it wouldn't stop these versions from being bad songs. Like the speed of sound studio version is godawful, but that doesn't stop the demo from being better that everything else on backspacer. I just consider it like an alternate version.

Sure, that's all fine by me. Have at it. I like the SOS studio version... but I won't be happy if the same thing happens to FD.

As for Speed of Sound I don't really think much of it in either form. If FD ends up like SoS I won't affect me either way.

I wasn't sure on let it ride for a while but its grown on me a lot. Who knows LB could overtake it but that verse melody really drags it down for me and LiR is just the kind of song i prefer listening to generally, but we'll see, the solo-ing/mike parts sounded quite kickass, and i really like the pre-chorus.

I won't care, per se, if FD gets speed of sound'd cause i don't like the song, i will however be a little sad that they keep fucking songs up in such a spectacular fashion. I will of course, regardless of any evidence to the contrary, blame BoB.

Thats part of the reason why these two songs are definitely unfinished. The production isn't bad - it is simply missing.
