was going to reference Norlander for his contributions to the DMB community. Don't get me wrong, it's been decades, in my opinion, since dmb released an album with true staying power for me, but Norlander's records and riffs podcasts regarding before these crowded streets and busted stuff/the lillywhite sessions are awesome. love his music deep dives.

For all the talk about production and mixing and what not I still don’t get why anyone would choose to make the drums sound the way they do. What logical, technical, or creative reason is there to make them sound flat? Genuine non-rhetorical question. I don’t understand what purpose it serves, or it’s drive n by or required by other production choices.

But obliterating all decay of the snare and kick, and accentuating all of the attack, Serban Ghanea has mixed a drum sound that is more in line with today's pop music, and this can presumably fit more comfortably on randomized playlists and be used in film/tv licensing deals.

Or, and also, its probably the only way he knows how to mi/master an album? They are all pop hounds, right?

I doubt it's "the only way he knows." He's got a particular sound that is making him a lot of money, so he delivers.

Neither do I and it’s a weird choice. I listen to more classically sounding rock in my mix along with modern pop music and I don’t feel the need for both to sound similar. Barf.
