Wait, I missed something. Is there actually going to be a Josh Evans mix?
Josh Evans & Nick Rives mixed the Dolby Atmos version contained on the deluxe edition
If you don’t have an Atmos system, do you think it sound much different?
It does. Sounds a little like listening through a metal door. The band does get pushed back in a pleasing way but there is an unpleasant echo and phasing.
The long reverb tails resulting from the clanging of the closing metal door are astonishing. Demo disc quality

They’ve got the 2 disc CD on Amazon for $24. I assume that’s the same as the deluxe

Which version where you listening to before Qobuz hi res?

I wonder whether the Josh Evans mix will be exclusive to the blu-ray (at least on release date) or will the Dolby Atmos mix on Apple Music etc feature the Josh Evans mix? I know that the Dark Matter single is already Dolby Atmos, but especially on my first listen on Apple Music with AirPods Pro 2, I did find the production quite jarring. Apart from that I’m really enjoying the song, but I have stopped listening to avoid any potential burn out before the album drops.

I’ve probably listened to this song 100 times now. I can see this single being the most successful since the Backspacer singles or even World Wide Suicide. I just get Vs/Vitalogy era vibes and I hope we get a more solos like the one on this.

As far as popularity goes it would have a real hard time topping Just Breathe.

The disc is not exclusive. The same mix will be on Apple Music come release day.

Yes, but I wasn’t sure if this was Josh Evans mix on Apple Music or whether that was only on the blu-ray.

Ahh. Hopefully that is the Josh Evans mix on there. I don't want to have to deal with two different Dolbys!

That’s interesting.

The bass sounds a bit weak there.

Whatever they have used to isolate that bass has not done a great job I’m guessing.

It certainly contributes to it. Isolation without the masters is usually done through some sort of AI, which often conflates certain frequencies across different tracks. I use Moises and a lot of the time you'll lose some of the shape of an instrument when you isolate because part of it drops with another frequency in that instruments neighborhood. In this case, because the bass is distorted, I'm guess some of it fell off with the guitars.

My takeaway here is that Watt told Jeff to use the same tone from Why Go. Smart choice.

Edit: just listened to the track again under my AirPods Max and yeah, this was definitely AI, and it was done on the free or limited version. You're missing a lot of the instrument because of that. Anyone catch the ghost notes in the verse though? Haven't heard Matt roll down to a kick like that before. Groove is back.

That checks out. There's one part in the isolated track where the bass drops out almost completely, but you can tell Jeff hadn't stopped playing.

Love the tone. I'm getting 80's Duff McKagan (GnR) and Bill Gould (FNM) vibes during the verses.

Anyway, I think it sounds pretty good as far as isolated bass goes. I've heard a lot worse! (Fieldy from KoRn lmao)

Lastly, the drums sound fine you weirdos.
