He's become more of a businessman than an author. The name "James Patterson" on a book cover doesn't mean he wrote it anymore. You should read The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry. Finished it this morning and it's schmaltzy as hell but if you're in the right place it's great. The book even says at one point that sometimes you just find books at the right time in your life.

Really loved the first book in this series. And this second one is also outstanding so far. I'm less than 100 pages in but holy shit.
