Nothing has been decided at this point. But, again, what I'm hearing from the inside is that they want to do them. They're just waiting before making any final decisions.dimejinky99 wrote:durdencommatyler wrote:The only "original" or "old" character that I'm worried about is Luke. I'm also now hearing rumblings that Disney is keen on doing more Saga films. Which leads me to believe that there must be a strong Skywalker connection. So, either Rey is a Skywalker or Kylo Ren goes Light Side.
This is gonna be fun.
I thought none of that was decided until this think tank sit in with the story group and Kennedy and Abrams etc in January?
I hope we get saga films forever. No complaints from me if there is.

Great news!! How long between them though is the thing. They could just keep it going at 2 year gaps. Doubtful the cast would want to be saddled to it in perpetuity though.
Yeah I'd like George to direct a new film. Saga or standalone.
They should give him an important one.

I have no issue with George being brought in as an idea man and/or co-writing a script. But I really never want him behind the camera on one of these ever again.

I haven't seen/read his original treatments for this new trilogy. But, yes, in general, I agree. And if he has more ideas/treatments for things moving forward, I do want him to be a part of that creative process. We can all bag on George for a lot of things but a lack of vision and good ideas isn't really one of them.LoathedVermin72 wrote:Oh I agree with that. Well think about it. A new hope is pretty wonderful. I could see him wanting to try something like that. Though I can't see modern audiences liking his constantly static camera.
Still. I'll always wonder what his treatments for 7,8&9 were gonna be.
I mean look at this

Well, we kinda know what his ideas were. As discussed previously, he pretty much used them to finish up ROTJ. Obviously, they would be fleshed out a lot more, but the idea is there.LoathedVermin72 wrote:I don't even know what they are. Now, referencing that Hammill video from above, he certainly had ideas beyond what was used to complete the trilogy, but other than little snippets like that, I don't think any of them have come to light.

It'd be cool to know but Speculating is fun too.
Disney didn't even want to use them as Guides or outlines for this new trilogy so that leads me to believe the trilogy we have is going to shoot off in mad directions. I can see Lucas version being about Luke training new Jedi but past that no idea wha they would have to fight against.

Yeah, since Lucas (or probably more likely someone "in his office") had final approval over all those old novels that were published as canon before Disney turned them into "Legends," I think the story we would have gotten from Lucas's new trilogy would have followed what we got in those books. Luke opening the Jedi Academy. Han & Leia's kids training. All that stuff in one form or another.dimejinky99 wrote:It'd be cool to know but Speculating is fun too.

It's always been so confoundingly weird to me that Lucas let authors run riot in his universe. It ended up a contradictory mess in a lot of places and seemingly went unchecked. There is a lot of great stuff there but as to your point,
If he let people write that han and Leia have kids and they have force powers we one goes bad,
Clearly that wasn't where he was gonna go in the films or at that point he was still convinced he'd never return to make more films?

Just thinking about it again.
What a punch in the guts it's gonna be when Leia first appears on screen in 8.
It's gonna be mad emotions. Of all sorts.
Cool episode if you're thinking about that

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (2017)
At the time those books were written he had no interest in making any movies past ROTJ. Witha few exceptions, Lucasfilm just let them do whatever they wanted. They were never considered canonical anyway so it didn't matter. However, Lucas was adamant that no one could use Vader/Anakin or the Sith. That's why you had "dark Jedi" show up instead of Sith. He did allow for stories set in the ancient past about the Sith but nothing really recent.dimejinky99 wrote:durdencommatyler wrote:Yeah, since Lucas (or probably more likely someone "in his office") had final approval over all those old novels that were published as canon before Disney turned them into "Legends," I think the story we would have gotten from Lucas's new trilogy would have followed what we got in those books. Also, IIRC, Lucas wanted nothing of Boba Fett's past written about.

So, setting aside personal feelings - will this do Dark Knight+TFA numbers because it's her last on-screen appearance?
