Mandy was dreadful. Worst movie I’ve seen in a while.

Very similar to the cartoon, but more beautiful to look at. At times it felt more soulless, with the animals looking more real, than animated (no facial expressions). Nevertheless, it picked up when Timon and Pumbaa entered, and became a lot more entertaining. All in all I liked it.

Now watching Scenes From A Marriage. Bergman is very hit and miss for me, but this has been good so far (30 minutes in).

Insanity -- the original animated film is vibrant, colorful, dramatic, expressive; the remake is just drab and dull and visually uninteresting. Compare the sheer awesomeness of Scar's musical number in the original, with the eery puffs of green smoke and dramatic shadows, to how completely boring the new version was. Totally pointless movie IMO

We thought it looked amazing in 4K at home yesterday evening. A live action movie will usually beat a cartoon in visuals.

But I’m pretty sure the musical numbers were better in the cartoon. I’ve seen it three times, last time a year ago, and remember those as being quite a bit better.

Yeah I think that comparison illustrates my point perfectly

The original Lion King doesn't really hold up as a movie, but I rewatched it after watching the pointless remake and I couldn't believe how staid and boring it made the "live action" one look in comparison

I think the cartoon is a classic. It gets a higher rating from me than the remake, and indeed most movies, that might not have been obvious from my initial post. The animals just have more personality, and the movie never seems slow, which I think the remake suffered from in the beginning. But I do think the remake was more beautiful.

I thought the remake was drab and dull. I didn't think that about the Jungle Book remake, but Lion King seemed so mailed in.

Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

That was a very fascinating true story, and I just love watching Clint on screen.

I enjoyed Next Gen. Cute cartoon, a bit like Zootopia, but futuristic.

Watching In The Shadow Of The Moon now.

I took my niece and nephew to see Call of the Wild over the weekend. I have never read the book, so I wasn't really prepared for how sad it was going to be.

The CGI was super distracting, but I still enjoyed it. I don't really understand why they made the dogs faces so weirdly expressive. The whole movie is presented as real, but all the dogs look like they're about to talk.

yeah I can't watch that because of the faces. Bad move.

I saw The Invisble Man the other day.

It was OK, I guess.

I'm not one of those people who requires a plot to make perfect sense but it didn't make any sense at all in parts.
