Yeah, its more that its a poor rhyme very early in the song makes it stand out, maybe if they were at a point the song where the momentum carried it... Usually Eddie has nice word play, another great thing about Sleight of Hand...
Yeah, I think his lyrics did become very rhymey at S/T but again, that was all to do with his new drive to make songs with "hooks" or memorable lines or whatever. Most people remember rhyming things.

of course it has an agenda. it is social/political commentary. that is the point!
I'm not saying that's untrue, just that it isn't necessarily any less "honest" than songs about my life. And I really should've written that having an agenda is no bad thing, but people usually use the word negatively. A song with an "agenda" can often be even more personally revealing than an overtly autobiographical one, in my opinion. I really find out very little about Ed in a song like "Just Breathe", but in a song like "Do the Evolution", "Brain of J" or MYM, I learn a lot about what his obsessions are.
fair enough :)

This is one of my issues with a good amount of PJ's songs around the Binaural/Riot Act and even S/T era. I feel like Ed sought to write something on a macro issue, rather than having the song just 'come out' naturally. Contrived is the right word. There are exceptions, of course. But, this is one more reason why I enjoy the recent material - it seems more honest. Unthought Known, Just Breathe, Sirens, Lightning Bolt seem authentic, like they were spurred from real experiences and the writer didn't come in with an agenda of sorts.

I think he's confusing the lyrics from Gone with the meaning from unemployable

Probably time to start a thread for album No. 11 and take the conversation over there.

I would love if PJ would do this one day....that would avoid any leaking...

I have been wondering for a while about the possibility of this. The name "Lightning Bolt" makes me wonder about the thunderclap that usually follows. One of the instrumental songs from Touring Band 2000 was called "Thunderclap".

I would love to hear a version of this fleshed out with lyrics. Hell, the other 2 would be pretty bad-ass, too.

Which, again, isn't about Ed. It's about a soldier.

"Thunderclap" would be a much better title too.

Thunderclap.

Horrible title. "hey, you got the 'clap yet?" "I am really digging the 'clap today". "Can someone send me the 'clap?"

I never thought the "gas in my tank feels like money in the bank" was about the cost of gas, but the freedom a full tank of gas provides. Money is freedom to full tank of gas is freedom to drive away type of thing.

That video is one of the coolest things the band has ever done. Love the footage of Ed in Dublin getting ready to jump, as the rocking part is getting ready to come in.

Yup, nothing to do with money. "Money in the bank" = potential / hope.
