and you're just gonna bottom-page me with no quote box and move on like that huh?
96583UP wrote:thinking about this interview more

stone mention's that Ed's 3 rockers came in late

I wonder if that was after they decided to shelve Can't Deny Me

Stone talks about writing Buckle Up during the santiago show

I think that was the first where CDM was played (and sucked) and I recall what I perceived as a look of disgust on Ston'e face afterward (although I could have been projecting)

anyway - it almost sounded in the interview like he paused at one point after mentioning santiago - like he was gonna say 'that was the tour when we played Can't Deny Me' and then he pulled back

i might be imagining all of this but doesn't seem far-fetched to think that they had an initial album lineup mostly in place with CDM up front

then it bombed

then they pulled it and Ed brought in some ringers to spruce things up

I can’t imagine PJ pulling a song just because it was received poorly... it just doesn’t seem like something they would do... but whatever happened I’m very glad we have Gigaton CDM free, and even better BOB free! :hooray:

Did the band ever actually say that Can't Deny Me was from the upcoming album? I can't remember. I know the media said it was.

yeah, it was in their press release. And Stone said they thought the song was awesome or something.

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Stone break down the album. I liked how he expanded on the DotC process even more this time. It's also cool that he can tell 7 O'Clock is going to be a grower and possibly the most meaningful from this record.

I wish I had a Charles H. to get me my edibles

From the email Pearl Jam sent on March 13, 2018.

“Can’t Deny Me” from the band’s forthcoming album is now available on PearlJam.com and all digital and streaming services.

Pretty clear that the song was originally going to be part of the 11th album and that they must have been intending to release it at some point in 2018...then things went South. Reasonable to assume that the less than warm reception the song got may have sent the band back to the drawing board.

It's the lead single of Gigaton 2.0

Its a song they dont really care anymore it seems. Mike gave a weird response about the song not being in Gigaton, like yeah, at the time we thought it was going to be in the album but its not. Maybe one day we release that one.

something like that.

I mean they rightfully tossed it aside, but they pretty clearly had higher hopes for it a few years ago.

Like there's no way that Ed *only* came in with songs in late 2019, right? Seems way more likely that he had songs in 2017 (or sooner) that got scrapped probably around the same time BOB got the boot.

There are a lot of ideas and music thats waiting for sure. Josh said it.

I guess once BOB was out (2018 seems to be the date), they didnt want to have that song on the new album.

or the 10c made an error, which happens all the time. i'm not convinced they had an album for release at the time or definitely intended cdm to be on any future album. i'm more convinced that the 10c are incompetent and made an error on a sentence they sent out with a track.

I was a Can't Deny Me apologist until I heart Gigaton.

Gigaton destroyed that song for me.

The obvious answer is that they framed it that way presumptively, then marinated in the mix of lackluster response and their own shit work ethic.

I’m not opining either way on that. Did they achieve anger through song?
