Why am I defending The Pearl Jams.

the drums do sound fine: you can hear all the intricacies of the groove, as Aunt_Claire_Foy points out, and that's all I ever ask for

This is key.

My only complaint which has evolved since release... is during the guitar solo you still hear two rhythm guitars. I miss the old days where each channel had an assigned role. In fact I think in the liner notes for Yield they qualified Stone as Right Guitar and Mike as Left Guitar referencing the panning strategy.

So when you hear Mike pick up the solo his rhythm part drops, giving it that live feel. That's not here, and it's a little off putting when you notice it.

yeah, I couldn't articulate it like that because I don't primarily listen to guitars, but I did always feel it gets a bit "muddy" during the solo, which means Mike needs to come in louder, which pushes Ed further back (in itself not a bad thing by that stage of the song)

I took a break from this yesterday but I blasted it twice this morning in the car after dropping the kiddo off to school. It's a 4 star banger.

Not begrudging anyone their joys, but, there's just too damn much amazing music in the world for me to listen to any one thing that many times. I've got records that came out five years ago that I haven't heard nearly sixty or seventy times.

I've barely listened to any PJ of late until this song came out, and I'm probably listening to it once a day at most. I think it'll all be ok.

Three times since last Tuesday. Sometimes I get the urge to listen to the same song on repeat, but this hasn't proven to be one of those songs.

so, i decided yesterday to throw on no code for the first time in like 5 years. man what a gem. it's loose, chaotic, organic, and genuine.

I will say, to be fair, I do tend to get heavily obsessive around album cycles for foundational bands in my life, of which Pearl Jam is one. I'll listen to the albums, outtakes, various bootlegs, etc., in the lead-up to release, but not the pre-release singles. Keeps the songs fresh for the album. Much like visiting here, I'll carry that through for about two to three weeks post-release and then move on until I either go to a tour date or else there's another new album.
