Do you think he should just man up and play through the injury? Because, chances are, if it's severe enough for him to hit the DL, he would suck struggle while in the lineup and you would bitch and complain about how poorly he's performing. Then, when the injury gets worse and worse because he's not treating it, he'll eventually need surgery and be out a couple months instead of just 15 days, and then you'll really complain about him.
Braun is starting to get a history of over stating his injuries
he didnt start a game a few years ago against the Marlins with a stiff neck / thought he was going to miss a few games.. only to hit a pinch hit home run to win THAT game and not miss another start
or more recently this year with the thumb, misses a game in Boston, goes to the media saying his slow start is because of the thumb and says "I might need surgery as the pain just wont go away" 1 day later 3 homer game and suddenly the thumbs no longer an issue. And now this current injury, he leaves the game in the 9th, says hes just going to miss a game or two... week later hes on the DL from said injury.

and ya have the whole... "i took steroids to get over a nagging injury"

injuries happen, Molitor was my favorite player he missed plenty of games
this is something totally different with Braun, this is starting to feel like a player whos going to sit anytime hes got a sniffle fearing he might go 0-4 and ruin HIS stats

You hear stuff like "He's out of the starting lineup, but available to pinch hit" all the time. ALL the time, from all kinds of players on every team. Sometimes players just need some time off. It happens.

The problem here is that you're saying "He's playing well, so the injury can't be as bad as he made it sound." Why aren't you saying "He's playing well, so it's really impressive that he's putting up good numbers in spite of the injury"?

Mario Lemieux went through cancer treatment and had back pain to the point where he couldn't tie his own shoes, yet he went out and continued to perform as the best hockey player in the world. People didn't look at the results and say "Well, the cancer can't really be that bad, and obviously his back's ok." They looked at him and said "Damn, this guy's the best player in the world."

Ryan Braun is a douche and a liar and a cheater and an asshole and blah blah blah, but assuming he's making up or over-exaggerating injuries because of his on-field performance is kind of dumb.

I wish Roddy White had taken this advice last season but

Just so we're clear, it's still ok to complain about Mike Hampton though right?

spring training - Braun, who was hitting great, said the thumb was fine, he was looking forward to starting the season and getting back to playing ball. Note, HE SAID, the thumb was fine.

regular season starts - he goes 1-16? and when asked about the slow start, he now says the thumb injury is still nagging him and hes looked into surgery and well have to miss a few games to let it settle down. HE, now is saying the thumb now may require surgery, after HE had just said a few weeks prior it was fine.

Most players when they need a day off for a nagging injury, take the day off
they dont run to reporters and say "hey i got this nagging injury it might require surgery"

and the douchebag also has blamed nagging injuries on why he turned to P.E.D's

how are you even bringing what Super Mario did into a discussion about a pathelogical liar, narcissitical, ego manic whos rubbing just about everyone the wrong way with his seemingly me first attitude? are you a closet Braun/Brewer fan? :haha:

Seriously. That dude doesn't deserve to have his name mentioned in the same paragraph as Le Magnifique.

Well, for starters, it was an example. I'm not comparing the two players, I'm comparing the way fans react to a player's ability to play through an injury.

Players lie about injuries all the time, especially in spring training. Players go through years of nagging injuries that never let up, and in spring training they're magically in the "best shape of their lives." Unless it's something serious, players rarely discuss nagging injuries in spring training.

And I'm no injury expert, but I'm guessing it's pretty common for injuries to go from "It feels good right now" to "It hurts like hell and I may need surgery" in a matter of a couple weeks. Again, it happens all the time, and players shouldn't be vilified for it.

I hear what youre saying, I really do, and ive always thought Ripken would have been better off sitting a game here or there during his streak. Rest a day get your legs back under you.

But Braun is seriously getting a reputation that hes a me first player, and the way HE himself reports the injuries to the media, makes him seem like he cant play in pain. HES the one painting this picture.

Players are given days off all the time to rest / recover from nagging injuries. HES the one going to the media saying "yeah this is bothering me my swings been off the last few days because of it"

Thanks to Tulowitzki's unbelievable start, Nolan Arenado might be having the quietest 27 game hitting streak I can remember.

dont forget Blackmon - .359, 7 HRs, 25 RBIs, 30 Runs

the crazy thing, is Arenado having the quietest 27 game hitting streak, he is STILL 29 games away from DiMaggio

Dan Uggla has a 33 game hitting streak possibly longer I can't remember.

Boy does that devalue the long hitting streak

I remember that one. Wasn't he hitting something like .190 when it started?

So I just checked, and Uggla was hitting .173 before the streak and hit .237 after the streak. Yikes.

It doesn't seem that long ago that he was among the best second basemen in the league.

indeed, but I think the last 3 years he has been redefining the Mendoza line.

Didn't Luis Castillo get into the high 30s some years back?

I vaguely remember that, too. 39? Speed guys like Castillo always seem more likely to do it, to me, because the chance they can keep it going with a cheap infield hit or a bunt single or something. I know they don't actually have a better chance, but I've always sort of perceived it that way in the back of my mind.
